trk_koa Posted January 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2022 We have booked a RT San Diego on Koningsdam followed by a RT on Zuiderdam. Koningsdam arrives on the morning of April 3 and Zuiderdam leaves at 5 pm that same day. We’ve heard that the first ship will aid us in getting our Covid test for the second one. Is there something we need to do to make sure HAL knows we are doing this before we embark on the first cruise? Or just inform guest services when we get on? Does anyone have any details on how the transition to the other ship is handled? Do they do anything special to help? Like can we drop our bags for the Zuiderdam or do we need to hang onto them until our boarding time? Any clarifying details would be much appreciated. Thanks, Nancy
DAllenTCY Posted January 24, 2022 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2022 (edited) Your bags will be transferred from one ship to the other by the porters. You will receive a special colored tag for each piece of your luggage for this purpose. You (and if others doing the same) will be in an escorted group which will be the last off of the Koningsdam....approximately 9:30 am. Embarking the Zuiderdam is usually at 11:30 am. In the meantime, bring warm clothing, and expect that there may not be a restroom available in the terminal for you. In the event that the two ships are at different piers, you will be provided transportation. CruiserBruce Posted January 24, 2022 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2022 Hi @DAllenTCY! How is the port and the ships handling B2B on the same ship? We have a B2B coming up next month there.
DAllenTCY Posted January 24, 2022 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2022 Your Covid testing will be done onboard a day before arrival. You gather as a group and go through CBP ...sometimes onboard...more often in the terminal, about 9:30 am. Then you wait until the ship is ready for the next voyage. On a good day about 30 - 45 minutes. Any specific questions, Bruce? David

DAllenTCY Posted January 24, 2022 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2022 It looks as though the Koningsdam and Disney Wonder will be at B. Street and the Zuiderdam at Broadway on April 3rd. David

DAllenTCY Posted April 4, 2022 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2022 Today was the first time ever that 3 ships were unloading and reloading guests here in San Diego. There were 20 - 30 guests Koningsdam to Zuiderdam, and vice versa. That was also a first time event. The Broadway Pier is a white elephant.....to small to be a pier....to large to useful for much of anything. Late disembarkation from the Zuiderdam was foreseeable many months ago for a variety of reasons. The Disney Wonder offloaded 1,400 and embarked 2,004 and she was between the Zuiderdam and Koningsdam. It would have been a much better situation if the two Holland America ships had been at the same pier; however, the Disney Wonder had "dibs" and opted for the south berth at B. Street. I hope your 10 day voyage goes well, and I thank you for your candid comments. David

trk_koa Posted April 4, 2022 Author #12 Share Posted April 4, 2022 Thank you, David. Your insights at San Diego are so helpful. I just did my HAL survey and hopefully our comments will help prevent all the confusion and consternation in the future. Communication is key. My recommendation for others doing trans-ship is to let the cruise line transfer your luggage and go somewhere in San Diego for a nice brunch. Board your second ship in a more leisurely fashion at your assigned boarding time.
