We stayed at the Embassy Suites downtown, nice accommodations , free happy hour drinks and took the free trolley to the port. found it very convenient.

May I ask when you stayed?  We are planning to be there Easter weekend.  We aren't seeing any favourable reviews of Embassy Suites Tampa, except for various employee endorsements that are first time contributors.. We normally enjoy ES when we are heading for a cruise.

How long did it take to get to the port via the free trolley?

Embassy Suites being located directly across the street from the Tampa Convention Center is more of a convention hotel. It can be very crowded and busy with long waits in the lobby Starbucks if there is an event going on at the convention center. Its also a bit dated....especially compared to the list of hotels I mentioned in my post above. There is a convention center stop on the trolley basically right outside Embassy Suites called Dick Greco Plaza Station. It is 3 quick stops to the port...approximately about an 8 minute ride.
