Heidi13 Posted March 24, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2022 We are booked on the UK/Scandinavia cruise immediately after the World Cruise next year. Today we received notification that Viking have cancelled all Russian itineraries through 2023, with the new itinerary being the same as this year's changes. Well done Viking for taking early and bold action. Actually, it works rather well for us, as we have been to Tallinn, SPB & Helsinki before, but Oslo, Bornholm & Mariehamn are new ports for us. Sad to miss a return to SPB, but time to move on and start planning our overnight in Oslo. sabrefan Posted March 25, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2022 We are booked for Viking Homelands cruise in May 2023 and Viking informed us today that they have eliminated Russia for this cruise. I really appreciate Viking for taking this action well in advance. Even if this stupid war was stopped tomorrow I would not care to support the Russian economy in the future.
Rare Azulann Posted March 25, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2022 (edited) I also see that Viking has the new" Scenic Scandinavia ", 11 day itinerary that replaces the Russia/ Baltic one. for 2022 and 2023. I am really excited. This new itinerary stops in three ports in Denmark including a overnight. I will talk to my sister tonight and move our Alaska cruise for June 2023 to this new one. I will finally get to my family's homeland Denmark. Plan to do an extension there for sure. Have not been to any of these countries in Europe. Mich3554 Posted March 25, 2022 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2022 Yep, I found this email in my box last night. Disappointed that Russia is off the table, but it’s understandable.
Squawkman Posted March 25, 2022 #5 Share Posted March 25, 2022 Our main interest in booking this cruise are the 3 ports on the Gulf of Finland. Since we have much of Scandinavia covered, we decided to cancel our April 2023 Homelands.
Donaghadee Posted March 26, 2022 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2022 Just checked the 2023 North Pacific Passage itinerary. Petropavlovsk is still on the menu. Probably just a temporary oversight on Viking part.

Rare austinetc Posted April 16, 2022 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2022 On VIking's "Updates on Current Sailings", it says that currently open 2024 sailings to Russia are also being replaced.

Yep; they removed St. Petersburg, Talinn, Estonia, and Helsinki, Finland. I'm sorry to miss the latter 2; unless there's a major political upheaval in Russia and Putin is deposed, we'll never foot in Russia. Rare Vineyard View Posted April 17, 2022 #12 Share Posted April 17, 2022 We very much enjoyed all three of those ports on a previous Homelands cruise. While I would absolutely visit Tallinn and Helsinki again - I cannot imagine ever wanting to spend time nor a dime in Russia again. It was a stamp to memory experience, but we just couldn’t. I sincerely hope that times change, and future generations are able to freely explore again, but sadly I think that time is a long way into the future.
