How to kill time in San Juan before our flight leaves

Recommended Posts

Beware that the San Juan airport is very hectic. We missed a 12:15 flight a couple of years ago. A 1:30 - 2:00 flight would have been just right for us. The wait was much longer than most airports. It depends on how you choose to leave the ship. RCCI transfers can take much longer than getting a cab. With that said, we enjoyed just walking around Old San Juan. The time it takes to get to Old San Juan and to the airport by cab is pretty short. It is doable if you get off early and get a cab. Just watch the time. I would love to go back. Have a great time!

Old San Jaun has tons and tons of nice shopping if you like that.....and its just off the pier too.....

It is not just off the pier as Adventure docks at the Pan American pier which is across the bay from Old San Juan.

If you are interested in visiting the forts, El morro is a great place to explore for a couple of hours. It is very interesting and the views of the bay are awesome. There is a place in town, called the Barrachina, where you can check your luggage for a few hours while you explore Old San Juan. Old San Juan is a very beautiful place to walk around. Try to get off the ship fairly early so you don't have to rush.

I would suggest that you start getting ready to head for the airport not much later than noon to catch that flight. It will take about 20 minutes by cab from OSJ to the airport. And that airport is far from the most organized.

We are on AOS March 12. After our cruise, our flight departs San Juan Airport at 2:45. Any ideas on how we can kill some time?:)

You may not have as much time as you think! We had a 2:00 flight last year, and because we were one of the last groups called off the ship, we were cutting it closer than we would have liked to. Remember that there are thousands of other people in the same boat (pun intended) as you that day, all waiting to get off the ship(s!) (can take a long time), all trying to get to the airport (just take a cab, it's pretty quick), all checking their bags at the ticket counters (can take a long time), and all waiting to go through the security checkpoint (can take a long time). Also throw in getting lunch somewhere in there.

I can't remember what time our flight left, but when we got to the airport we had our luggage secured in a storage room and headed back via taxi to Old San Juan. We had time to tour the fort and have lunch before taking a taxi back to the airport.
