The health protocols page has been updated and Princess will now do complimentary antigen tests on embarkation day in Barcelona, Civitavecchia, and Athens.

Upated to say: this also includes European cruises on the Island Princess and Enchanted Princess

Hopefully, this will be the case when we board the Regal in October.

Thank you for posting the update!

Thanks for posting this and thanks Princess! Our cruise leaves out of Barcelona in early July, so this is definitely good news. But we will still take the “cheap” home antigen test before we leave, though, just to make sure we test negative before getting on the plane.

Here's from the HAL Website:

Testing:  Guests may be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test prior to travel. Please check with your airline and the arrival country’s requirements in advance of travel. Holland America Line does not require testing for travel to/from/within Europe above and beyond any governmental requirements

I am hoping that things improve such that by October, this is true for Princess!!  As noted above, being an asymptomatic "positive" prior to boarding is my greatest fear, followed by being an asymptomatic positive at the airport when it is time to fly home.

I'm not seeing that on the HAL website, but then again it was updated today. Would it be possible for you to provide the link to where you read this? Here's what I found:

Updated April 7, 2022

Until further notice, these are the requirements for our cruise guests on European sailings:

Vaccines: For these cruises the definition of “fully vaccinated” is at least 14 days and no more than 270 days (9 months) since the last dose in the vaccine series of an approved COVID-19 vaccine for guests ages 5 years of age and older.  A booster dose is required for guests whose final dose of an approved/authorized COVID-19 vaccine is older than 9 months (270 days) to be considered “fully vaccinated”.

Testing:  Guests will be administered a complimentary rapid antigen test at the cruise terminal during the check-in process. We strongly encourage all guests to take a COVID-19 test prior to leaving home to avoid travel disruptions associated with a possible positive test result on the day of embarkation.

Guests may be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test prior to travel. Please check with your airline and the arrival country’s requirements in advance of travel.

Masks:  All guests are required to wear masks always covering their nose and mouth when indoors and outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained, as well as during embarkation, disembarkation and when on transportation. Exceptions are made while guests are eating or drinking or when in their own stateroom.

Nope.  Same place.  It was different this morning and folks on the HAL board were saying that they were getting e-mails stating no required tests.

changes by the minute!

Understand. That’s why I double-checked as it sounded to good to be true and I guess some of the powers that be at HAL HQ had second thoughts as well.
