If you are planing for an European cruise entering The Schengen Area in 2023 be aware if the new ETIAS requirement.

Starting in 2023, the European Commission will roll out an electronic travel authorisation system for visitors from countries that are currently not part of the EU.

The ETIAS will be valid for 3 years and allows entry and travel within the EU for up to 90 days within a 180 day period.

ETIAS will cost €7 euros for individuals between the ages of 18 and 70. For persons under the age of 18, or over 70, a fee will not be charged.

Traveling from countries marked yellow will require ETIAS - other countries outside Schengen will still require a Schengen Visa (remember multiple entry Visa if leaving and re-entry to Schengen during the cruise/travel.

I had mentioned this to our TA. He said it was no problem as it gone done with the airline. I mentioned that for our 2023 cruise we were flying into the UK and starting from there, a non-Schengen country before cruising to some of those countries. He said he would have to look into that.

I have not heard back from him and have not contacted him since as it is not an immediate priority for us as August 2023 is still in the distant future,

You’re right.
When the cruise goes to the Schengen area in 2023 one must have an ETIAS regardless of whether the cruise starts in the UK.  It is not yet possible to register for ETIAS and as there is a time limit of 3 years, you should not register too early in relation to the trip
