Confused, main dining room first night

Hopefully this question can be answered,  we are wearing shorts to board our ship on first day.  I have heard, that you can on the first night wear shorts to dinner the first night, but not in following days.  Is that true?

You can wear shorts any night. I had a tablemate wear nice shorts to elegant night on liberty and not a word was said. 

 

Wear what you want. Just not a bathing suit.

Seconded. Shorts in the MDR are no big deal anymore

As long as the shorts don't look like this and you're not wearing a see-through tank top, you'll be fine.
