gwesq Posted August 7, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2022 We're boarding the Whisper on Sept 19, and plan to spend the evening prior at a hotel in NYC. We have our "Go To" hotel, BUT it is a few blocks from the UN, and that date is during the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly. Not only are rooms on the East Side hard to find, but the prices are 3 -5X what they normally are. And everything is overcrowded, streets closed off, etc. It's a real mess on the East Side. SO - we have to find a different hotel. Been reading review after review, and there are so many bad reviews of hotels in NYC. Looking for recommendations either on the West Side, or downtown or Union Square area. We can Uber to the ship, so we definitely do not need to be very close to the Pier. RetiredandTravel Posted August 7, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2022 I have heard good things about The Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca.
Rare bobolz Posted August 7, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2022 We are staying at our go to hotel ,the Bryant hotel, but we booked that awhile ago and looks like prices have increased significantly since then, but not 3-5x what we paid . Not sure your budget, but good luck hopefully you can find something that meets your needs…
gwesq Posted August 7, 2022 Author #4 Share Posted August 7, 2022 Found an interesting looking hotel on the Upper West Side, only opened this past October. A block from where I used to live. The Wallace hotel - all 5 star ratings. Last year we cruised at same time & drove in from Long Island - we had to drive thru the closings. Fortunately, our driver knew to head north & then come down west side highway. People who are on this cruise do need to be cognizant of the UN session. Rare Lois R Posted August 8, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2022 Hi, just a suggestion, there is an East Coast forum with some really helpful posters about Hotels, etc. You might check it out.
pf778c Posted August 8, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2022 Not luxury or interesting by any means, but whenever we have an evening and a matinee booked at the Met (we live near the Jersey Shore), we often stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square for convenience. Rooms are quiet (especially if not facing 8th Ave.), clean, and relatively roomy, and you're more or less centrally located for sightseeing and a skip from Pier 88 for embarkation.
Dimity Posted August 11, 2022 #7 Share Posted August 11, 2022 We have stayed at the Hotel Giraffe near Union Square and it was wonderful - highly recommend.
billdip Posted August 11, 2022 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2022 On the same cruise. Just booked the Hotel Kimpton Eventi on Priceline. $388 including tax and hotel fees. Very good reviews.
