I agree that the main concern is getting Covid during a trip and dealing with the potential consequences, especially being quarantined or having to seek local medical care if Covid symptoms become too severe.

It seems like there have been quite a few Covid cases just among the CC posters.  It would be interesting to know what percentage of passengers have been quarantined or have required medical care off the ship. Does anyone have any knowledge about incidence of Covid on Regent or on ships in general these days.  I realize that without mandatory testing and reporting requirements there is no way of getting statistically reliable information, but Regent and other lines would have info about quarantined cases onboard.

This topic is no longer openly discussed by the staff.

IMO, best to read what CDC is actually saying rather than relying on interpretations from social media or TV news reports.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7133e1.htm

The CDC is not saying that interventions such as vaccines or appropriate masks do not "work" or are of no value as is suggested by some media reports.  The CDC is also not claiming that protective measures are completely effective.  No surprise given our history with other viral illnesses such as flu.  Vaccines are not perfect.  Ancillary measures such as hand-washing, masking, isolation, etc, may help but obviously are not 100% effective either.

Can anyone confirm that HAL has removed vaccine requirements for NON-Canadian cruises?  Their FAQ states that:

"Updated August 19, 2022

Until further notice, these are the requirements for our cruise guests on sailings from the U.S. and Canada.

Vaccines: Guests ages 12 years of age and older must be fully vaccinated. Children under 5 years of age do not need to be vaccinated. Children between 5-11 years of age may be unvaccinated but will need to go through an exemption process."

Then later under their Which Holland America Cruises require vaccination, they state:

"All guests 12 years of age and older must be fully vaccinated on all Holland America Line cruises that begin, end or make a call to a Canadian port. Children under 12 years of age do not need to be vaccinated.

For guests 12 years of age and older with a vaccination exemption on any itineraries that include Canada, Canada requires medical documentation for Medical Vaccine Exemptions."

They SEEM to indicate that NON-Canadian passengers do not need to be vaccinated in the latter section, but the former section seems to contradict that.

Thanks.

I presume that for the time being testing will still be required out of Miami?

I'm wondering how the Covid experience is on the ships now sailing.  Our cruise in January on Splendour would be our most prolonged stay in a congregate setting like a cruise ship in a long, long time.  It worries me.  We've dodged the disease so far.  Worried about being quarantined for most of a very expensive cruise.

On the Splendor in July.  After evading covid for over 2 years - 9 days into our first cruise - we tested positive and were quarantined for 5 days.  Regent took very good care of us.  We enjoyed 5 4 days after quarantined and can say we really enjoyed the cruise.  Of course would rather not have been quarantined but....  We will be cruising again in Nov and then in Feb '23
