CatsinShow Posted August 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2022 What's considered a 2 category upgrade when the room you are going to book is the Interior with Window (Obstructed View)? What I also don't understand is when I read the fine print it says: Room location upgrades are automatically assigned at the time of booking and are based on availability in like to like categories only (interior to interior, ocean view to ocean view, and balcony to balcony). Upgrade is not available on upper/lower, obstructed, and cove categories. Why would one pay extra money if the room cannot get upgraded? cruisingguy007 Posted August 11, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) It could be as simple as not having to pay the few bucks to be on a higher floor cabin or a aft/mid/forward fee. There really is not a huge upgrade to be perfectly honest, it just sounds good. It can save you some money though on certain sailings where moving up can be expensive, could be worth $100 or more in some instances but is usually worth much less, it just really varies from ship to ship and booking to booking. They will usually show the lowest fares first and those room location upgrades will give you more choice for the same price essentially. Maybe the inside obstructed view case is that in any upgrade in category you would lose the window so the rule takes that into account. On other lines, any window/porthole is already an ocean view, (inside means "no window at all") so you might move to a better ocean view.
Schoifmom Posted August 11, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) When you book, you choose the room that you want. It is then priced at a category 2 levels lower than the room you are booking. You are not selecting a room and then getting moved to a room 2 categories higher. That is why it is not available for upper/lower, it is the lowest category and there is nothing lower to price it to. ray98 Posted August 11, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2022 It is a marketing tactic creating perceived value....nothing more.
