Rare coldweather Posted August 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2022 Hello. There is a possibility I will have to cancel my cruise within a few days of sailing. I understand I lose my cruise fare (It was less than $300 including port taxes.) I do have travel insurance from my credit card that 'may' help me out with some coverage. A few questions: 1. Will my port taxes be refunded to me? 2. How will pre-paid excursion and wifi plans be handled? Will I get a refund? I would like to purchase my excursions and wifi plans but I don't want to take the chance of increasing my potential losses until closer to my sailing date. Is it possible to book the excursions and not pay for them ahead of time? Thanks!
groundloop Posted August 23, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2022 You have to pay for excursions when you book them, and if you cancel you'll get a refund for excursions and wi-fi to whatever form of payment you used for booking them. I'm not positive about port fees, it sounds like you're past the final payment date and I don't have any experience with that.
Schoifmom Posted August 23, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2022 All port fees and taxes will be refunded to the original form of payment. All prepaids (gratuities, beverage plans, fun shops purchases, wifi, excursions, etc.) will also be refunded to the original form of payment.
Rare 1kaper Posted August 23, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2022 If you go into your booking and chose the option to cancel it will tell you how much it will cost to cancel.
firefly333 Posted August 23, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2022 If I bought planner stuff and then cancelled, I would go in before I cancelled the cruise and cancel the planner stuff first. Save cancel emails. I hope you can go.

Note: Cancellation of shore excursions must be made prior to 24 hours before sailing. From Carnival's site: For online cancellations of excursions that occur before the cut-off window (24 hours prior to sailing), a full refund will automatically be posted to the credit card that was used to pay for the shore excursion order, regardless of whether the person who made the purchase is sailing. Please allow 7-10 business days for the credit to post to your account. No changes can be made after the cut-off window until sailing and must be approved by the Shore Excursion Manager onboard. For cancellations made once onboard, any refunds will be made to the Sail and Sign account of the order’s contact person, not the original credit card used to secure the online order. This condition applies even in the event that shore excursions were purchased as a gift by someone who is not sailing.

ober134 Posted August 23, 2022 #8 Share Posted August 23, 2022 Are you using a PVP? I've had to "cancel" in the past, but not that close to sailing. my PVP was able to move my booking to a future cruise. So if you have another cruise in mind that might be an option. 1
ZoeyVictoria Posted August 24, 2022 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2022 Refunds for excursions and other cruise planner items will be made more quickly than refunds for cruise fares and port fees/taxes.

We have a GREAT PVP that has done the same for us a LOT of times over the last several years, including getting changes fees etc. waived. Be advised though, Carnival is clamping down. My guy ALWAYS got fees waived for me and I just spoke to him yesterday about possibly switching an October cruise for us and he said they aren't allowed to waive fees anymore - Carnival is clamping down and they can't pull the strings like they used to. So, you may be able to change cruises, but any fees likely would still apply.

I did have the insurance so I would get 75% back in future cruise credits, but still, costs me the insurance and $50. I didn't bother contacting my PVP, just cancelled online. My PVP called me and offered to move that deposit to another cruise later in the year so I don't lose the money. I can change up that cruise when we decide when we want to cruise either in 2023 or 2024.
