Depends on your cruise line’s policy. DW’s checked bag was once ID’ed for a search on Oceania due to something X-Rayed. She had to be present when the bag was to be opened. The questionable item was a hair curling iron which was okay to have. Edited September 18, 2022 by Flatbush Flyer
Rare mom says Posted September 18, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2022 Every cruise line has a list of items not permitted on board. Usually found in the FAQ section of their website. All of the lines we have sailed on have allowed curling irons and straighteners, but double check just to be safe.

From Celebrity's FAQs/Prohibited Items: "Candles, Incense, Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, Travel Steamers & Hot Plates. (Items that generate heat or produce an open flame. This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. NOTE: The only exception to this policy are curling irons and hair straighteners. Matches and normal lighteners are allowed onboard. However ""torch lighters"" and novelty lighters that look like guns are not allowed onboard. Torch lighters emit a powerful concentrated flame, and therefore are prohibited." There are many other prohibited items, of course, but this is the section that applies to you! https://www.celebritycruises.com/faqs/before-you-board ETA: Welcome to Cruise Critic! Rare Essiesmom Posted September 18, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2022 I’m sure cruise lines would love to prohibit all of those hair appliances, but the uproar would be deafening…. EM

I believe they have to be below certain wattage. I called for my upcoming cruise on the MSC and asked if DW can bring hairs straightener and was told it was ok. Rare Hlitner Posted September 21, 2022 #8 Share Posted September 21, 2022 We have cruised on 16 different cruise lines and DW tells me she has taken her curling iron on all with no problem. Hank
