Bidding Process/Comped Casino Cruise

I was surprised to get the email about the bidding on a comped cruise.  Has anyone done so and if so, did paying thru the personalizer screw things up since you're supposed to go thru the casino for everything on comped cruises?  I have one in January that I'm thinking about bidding on.  Thanks

If you have a cruise through the casino department only that department can deal with it. You can upgrade from whatever category you got for free but I don’t believe you can bid they  will tell you what the upgrade will be. Even my CVP cannot help us on these cruises

see post 272 on this thread.  Others appear to be bidding and told it would not be a problem by the casino dept.

My next 2 cruises are comped and I got an email about bidding.  So, I think you can, I just didn't know how it was handled.

Yeah but that appears to be an automatic email. I got one today for a comped cruise that I upgraded to a full suite when I booked. What upgrade do they think I am going to look for.

The email also asks if we want to add plus or premier   We got plus on our comp deal. I believe these emails are just going out to everybody

You can bid for an upgrade on a casino comped cruise.  Once the bid is accepted and paid for you will want to contact the casino department and let them know your bid was accepted and ask them to make sure the protection is still in place so the booking does not cancel. You can call or email them at Casinoinquiries@princesscruises.com to let them know.

I was assured by the casino reservations area that bidding on an upgrade should not affect the protection on the reservation. In fact I was advised that they have no ability to put in a bid for a guest so we need to do that ourselves. Still if any of my bids are accepted I plan to call casino reservations to confirm that all is still well on their end.

All all I can tell you is what happened to me.  I was also sent an email asking me if I wanted to "bid" for an upgrade for my free casino cruise and when I clicked on the link, I was told that this cruise is not eligible for bidding.

If you want to upgrade like to a suite just call and get a quote from casino department. We just scored an upgrade to a full suite with Princess Plus and when you discount the free play and OBC it came out to around $170 per day per person

My bid was accepted for my cruise on Saturday.  I called the casino department and the gal who answered switched me over to the Ocean Medallion so I hung up.  I called back immediately and got a guy who then took my payment information over the phone.  I have another bid in for a casino cruise in January and will handle it the same way if they take my bid.

Did you do that at the time of the original booking or shortly before the cruise?  I've asked for quotes for upgrading from the free cabin offered to a full suite and alternately to Club Class when initially booking and have been told they don't have those in their casino upgrade inventory.  They have quoted prices for suite but they are pretty much always more than what I would pay if I went through my TA using the casino discount.  Maybe it's different if you've already booked and later call about an upgrade?  Or maybe I don't play enough to warrant special treatment LOL - my offers are usually free insides, sometimes the Princess Plus is comped but lately it hasn't been.

I had a similar experience with my casino comped cruise on 11/13. I bid to go from a regular mini suite to a club class mini suite. When my bid was accepted, I contacted the casino department. They took my payment by phone and immediately sent me updated booking info showing that I am paid in full for my new cabin. The process was quite straightforward.
