~ Navigation Channel and Music

~ TV Channels and Movies

I always liked the Navigation Channel and would keep it on for the music as well.  There is no longer music.  There are two music channels and a Beyond Entertainment Channel that replays live performances but when the Navigation Channel is now on, silence.

TV Channel Selection has become extremely limited.  It's not like I need to watch TV in the cabin constantly, but I like music or background noise and will just have it on for something in the background.  TV and music choices are some slim pickins'.

I know I can stream from my phone or tablet, etc...but it's just easier with the TV.

The App

My App is working properly.  My mom and dad can't use the stateroom controls, as of last night.  They asked the Retreat Concierge and apparently there is a problem with some Android devices using all features.  We all have androids, but two out-of the four can use all features, two can not.

They tried to fix it onboard the ship but can not fix it so they are trying to correct it on land.  ?!?

It is nice to turn the lights all off from bed and also close/open the curtains.  Wow, how lazy have we gotten?!   It's like those clapper commercials from the 80s.  😂

🍹

Malfunction the other night

October 30th around 1:30am we were having a late night room service snack and the curtains were closed.   Suddenly they opened...by themselves.  The two of us looked at each other like, 'What is going on'?!   That was weird.

The next morning, at breakfast my dad said he woke up at 2:30am and all of the lights were on and the curtains were closed (he had them open and lights off).

The manager was saying there was some kind of shipwide time reboot and that's what caused that.

Just a little tidbit, funny story to share.

Opening Glass Doors

The glass doors are either automatic, like going from the elevator bank into the Solarium OR they have this 'button' you have to tap so the door opens (like all of the ones out to Retreat Pool Deck) and then others will open as you approach.

I find it a bit odd they have this additional touch point.  Why not all automatic?

🍹

I've not done the package but my understanding is I believe you can select first night if available otherwise they assign you a different one each evening.   Once on board you can make changes.    This is only what I heard from guests changing their reservations at the customer service desk.   I believe you can also do it at any of the specialties.

Doesn't the cruise planner allow you to book the specialty restaurants?

I'm on two trips with Celebrity in 2023; the 29 January and 28 August sailings for Beyond and Cruise Planner lets me book all my reservations.

This brings back memories of when TV remote apps became a thing. Our sons, then teenagers would go outside and change the Channel when I was watching something. Got me quite a few times!

They had lite bites before dinner in the Retreat Lounge.  We were in there around 5:30pm.  They serve things three times a day in the Retreat Lounge: Continental Breakfast, Afternoon Tea, Pre-Dinner Snacks.  Some things similar, some things different each time.

As for the menu available on the Retreat Sundeck and Pooldeck???  That I don't know.  The drink menus were out, not the food menus.  I'll ask tomorrow to see if they serve food the first day.

🍹

Thanks..we have access to the Retreat for 1st time..want to meet Concierge as soon as possible  b/c we want to order a few trays of snacks and maybe champagne for our Roll Call chic Gatsby get  together the 2nd night ( in Eden) ...we can put it in our tab and group will chip in..

Thank you for answering my question regarding the kettle & ideal spot for lunch if buffet looks crazy.  Sadly our slot to board is 1.30 to 2pm so looks like lunch at Luminea may not work.  Any other suggestions?  Wonder if they are serving food out on the Retreat Pool deck/cafe as previously mentioned?  If you could find out if they serve out there on embarkation day & time &, if at all possible, a menu that would be fabulous.  Thank you again for great information!

I believe if you are booked in a suite you can board any time so you should be able to make lunch at Luminae…at least that is how it’s been on the other ships since the restart.

Hi!   I went down and took pictures and assessed the noise levels of 3212 & 3216.

A few observations:

1.  Cabin 3216 is part of the first set of cabins once you turn down that hallway.

2.  3216 and 3212 do not share the same 'vestibule'. Cabin 3214 is in between.

3.  There is a large square pole (for support) in between the two cabins in the the same 'vestibule'.

4.  The entrance to the hallway of the cabins is off of the main corridor from the iLounge and Tuscan Restaurant, closer to Tuscan.

5.  Noise Level:

~ While standing in the hallway outside of the cabin, I did not hear any music from the Grand Plaza or noise from the casino.  You did hear it at the steps by the elevator and started to once leaving hallway of cabins corridor.

~ What I did hear, was a lot of creaking.  (I hear this is my cabin as well, on a different deck)...but definitely more in that hallway.

~ I felt the rumbling of the ship

> I do not know if there is cabin creaking or rumbling.

6.  The doorway to the hallway of cabins is to the right of the exposed walls.

7.   Since there are two main restaurants down the corridor,  it may get noisier when people are around.  I only saw one person walking around that area.

8.  The other entrance to the hallway of cabins is down by the iLounge.

Let me know if you want to know anything else.

🍹

THANK YOU!!! you have helped tremendously.  I saw your comment about your room creaking as well...I do know some of the boats creak when they are doing top speed and I think you mentioned you were moving and the rumbling could be like white noise???? maybe 🙂  Thank you again

As @Susanb10567 said, suites can board any time.  If you are able to get to the port earlier, you'll be able to have lunch in Luminae.

I'll ask if the food at the Pool Deck/Sundeck of the Retreat is served on embarkation day.

🍹

Here is the menu again.

You're Welcome. 😃

We are rocking a bit now and the creaking has extended to other parts of the cabin.   It doesn't bother me or keep me up but just an observation.  Definitely noticeable.  😉

Lite sleepers may want to bring ear plugs. 😉👂

We don’t hear any creaking on level 7 aft.

Thank you for letting me know we do not need to adhere to our check in time - that's great news.  We are driving over from the West Coast of FL so good to know we can get on the road earlier for a noon arrival.  Curious about all the creaking I've been following in various threads.  Wonder what that's all about?  On a different question - at sail away what do you recommend as a good spot to be in to enjoy the moment?  The sunset bar looks great but I imagine that's been very busy throughout your cruise so far?  Observations?  Is there a better spot in the Retreat in your opinion?

We did a Pre-Sailaway Meet and greet at the Sunset Bar (for Roll Call)  but for actual sailaway we went up to the Retreat on Deck 17 back by the hottubs because it was low glass.   I thought it would be crowded, but not at all.

🍹

The fog came back in.  We stayed there for awhile and then after going under the Verrazano Bridge, we walked around the whole area again.

There is also seating if you dont want to stand.

I've got an Edge Villa for both my 2023 7-night caribbean and 11-night Eastern Mediterranean cruises. All dining options show up for me.

It let's me book everything now.

You do not have to do a specialty on the first night.  In fact if they have assigned us one we were never told, noting in the cabin or in our planner.  When you board go to one of the specialty restaurants, or to a table where they are making reservation and book the days, times and restaurants you want.

Maybe because Edge villas come with specialty dining?

I was able to book whatever I wanted to. I didn't book a specialty package though.

That's what I always thought, go the first day and book.  I was just going by what people used to say about the Specialty packages.

I was talking to a couple who are Deck 11 Aft and they hear creaking.  They brought it up and I said I hear it as well.

Currently in the cabin and walls and ceiling are all making noise. 😂

I've taken videos/recordings but I can't get them to upload.
