Hello…. We have booked a cruise for February 2023. We received an email to upgrade. We found the section for addition costs concerning the insurance and the additional costs. Can anyone help with  any additional costs ( tipping for ship stewards etc. ). Is there any information for this please.

thank you in advance

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

That's about it. You'll pay the higher daily service charge and you'll pay insurance based on the cost of the room you get.

Thank you….. is there way to find the amount of the daily service charge…..

For bookings made on or after April 1, 2022, that prepay their service charges before their sail date:

  • $20.00 USD per person per day for The Haven and Suites;
  • $18.00 USD per person per day for Club Balcony Suite;
  • $16.00 USD per person per day for all other stateroom types

For bookings made on or after April 1, 2020, that prepay their service charges before their sail date:

  • $18.50 USD per person per day for The Haven and Suites;
  • $18.00 USD per person per day for Club Balcony Suite;
  • $15.50 USD per person per day for all other stateroom types

also, if you're upgrading from a studio/inside/or oceanview to a balcony or above, you'll get charged an increase in gratuities for the dining package (assuming you chose to keep the dining package) because you'll get an extra meal with the new cabin

If you pre-pay your Daily Service charges for the original cabin BEFORE you win an upgrade bid, you will not need to pay any additional DSC, even if you get put in a cabin with a higher DSC rate.  (ie pre-pay DSC for Balcony and win upgrade to Haven, you will not be charged additional DSC)

Also, If you win an upgrade, you will not get new "Free-at-Sea" perks that were not part of your original booking.  You will keep whatever perks you received/opted into with your original cabin.

Two exceptions that come to mind:

1. If you are upgrading to (or from) a Spa Cabin.  That particular perk stays with the cabin not your booking.  If you upgrade into a Spa Cabin, you will get access to the Thermal Spa.  If you upgrade "out" of a Spa Cabin (say a Spa balcony or suite to a standard Haven cabin) you will lose your free access to the Thermal Spa.

2. If you win an upgrade to the Haven, you get all the perks of the Haven (except extra Free-at-Sea if you had not selected) and you do not get the extra Latitude nights that come when booking the Haven outright.

just so it's clear, if you're in a cabin with one meal, and win an upgrade to a higher category cabin, you will get another meal.  This is not adding any new perks since you already had the dining package before winning the upgrade

Nope. All the upgrade would get you is a better cabin. Check the FAQ for upgrade advantage. It's question number 5.

we're actually saying the same thing.  You're not getting a new promotion.  You already had the dining package, so you will keep it with your upgrade.  But your new room cabin will entitle you to an additonal meal, which you will get.  And I'm telling you from experience.

Such helpful info….

 Thank you everyone. This is a bucket list  cruise through the Panama Canal. We cruised last year to Alaska ( bucket list crossed off). And we liked it so much we are cruising the Bliss to Alaska this summer… thank you for the luck on our bid.

Thank you thank you everyone. We have only cruised on Royal Caribbean and Princess. We had a cruise booked right when Covid hit with NCL, so this is all new to us. Again thank you everyone. Merry Christmas also to all.

The NCL Upgrade Advantage is almost identical to the RCCL Royal Up.

Tipping on NCL is 100% optional except of dining and drink packages.  You are welcome in arrears.
