Does / will Oceania do a Pollywog [Shellback] ceremony ?

Sea day events for Equator and IDL crossings (including certificates) is the norm.

Dear Fellow Cruisers:

 

We crossed the IDL on our November 2022 cruise on Regatta.  There was no ceremony (a port day) but we received a nice certificate to commemorate the event the following day.

Shellback ceremony is for crossing the Equator, not the IDL.

Really depends on the source reference. Shellback definitely is traditionally the equator. But, there are IDL ceremonies (e.g., Order if the Golden Dragon [or Golden Shellback], et al.) and Prime Meridian/Equator (at the same time) ceremonies (can’t remember what that one is called other than a “reason for a party.”).

if happens on a sea day and weather is not too rough it happens.  Costumed staff bring the cod to be kissed.

The ceremony was nothing like what it was in the US Navy back in the 70s/early 80's.

we had a ceremony when we crossed the Arctic Circle   a few people showed up as it was cold wet day  on deck BRRRR

But they do  them & you get a certificate

Let's see: we were in our underwear, had to crawl through two lines of guys "paddling" us with pieces of fire hose, had to kiss Neptune's (greasy) belly, and then crawl through a chute filled with "garbage."  No, I don't think a cruise line would be copying what the Navy does!!!  But it is nice that they do something.  We crossed it on a very small line in the Galapagos, and they did give us a certificate, and they allowed you to go up to the bridge to watch the GPS show 0.00° Latitude.
