Made non-refundable deposit; if I make payments & have to cancel will ensuing payments be refunded?

We expect to take this cruise.

Using my American Express I can get $175 back if I spend $500 by the end of March.

Final payment isn't due until Sept.

I ASSUME I would get that extra payment $ back if we had to cancel but want to be sure before I pay!

You would be correct in assuming that the extra (non-deposit) payments made prior to the final payment date would be refundable prior to the final payment date in the event of a cancellation.  Never done this myself, but the cancellation fee schedule clearly spells out the cancellation fee timeline.

You should get back the extra payment if it is before the final payment date.

 

You need to look at your confirmation to see what your cancelation schedule is.

 

Also, if you made a GROUP booking (i.e., you booked through a TA that has a group booking) your mileage may vary.

If you plan on doing that make sure you spend an additional amount on your Amex card before you try to cancel.    Most likely if you didn't AMex would likely claw back the bonus.

No it's fair that they want it back if I cancel...after all, I will actually be paying $350 for a $500 charge.
