As a jazz drummer ( as you can see in my larger photo) I feel your pain. Jazz is jazz, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder fall under Pop music. When I'd go to Jazz on 4 I would have expected to hear just jazz music. We like the Promenades on the bigger RCI ships, something that none of the Celebrity ships have. If they did we'd be sailing on them.

Hubby is a drummer as well, and is learning how to play jazz and funk (his background is rock, metal). We attend jazz clubs at home, and were expecting to hear some great jazz on the Celebrity ship. I told him last week, "No worries, Oasis class ships have dedicated jazz clubs," and he got very excited at the thought. Royal, I shake my fist angrily at you!

I can understand your pain as well as your drummer/husband's. Granted, the attendances are mostly small for the sets but where can you go to for a nice intimate setting to listen to music that we look forward to ? Jazz on 4 has always been in a quiet setting.

Give D+ access to the suite lounge?  Are you aware that on many sailings Pinnacle members don't even have access to the suite/concierge lounge.

M

Calm down...I was being sarcastic about the suite lounge...however...I am serious about the waste of space Diamond Lounge. The anytime drink vouchers have all but eliminated the once fun perk.

Sailed Ovation in Sep,Quantum in Oct.  DL was packed every night, Other than the first night the rear doors in the DL were opened into the music hall which was used as overflow. DL was pretty busy in the day time filled with people reading and game playing. On Quantum there was a good offering of breakfast items, every day a good variety of sandwiches for lunch.  HH appetizers were non stop.

That is what they call an anomaly.

I don't get it!  Is the Comedy Club closing too?  From the amp on Page 2, the comedy club was closer to the Casino than the jazz club.

We've enjoyed several of the jazz shows on Oasis Class ships.  The musicians were top notch.  The clubs were crowded.

We've also watched jazz at Dazzles (a much larger venue).  That was a little more complex because the band had to decide between improv jazz or dance music.  So some were disappointed.

All of these cuts add up to less value for us.  What will they cut next ... the ice rink?

The idea that young folks are getting poorer seems odd?   Relative to who?   So only young folks are getting poor while other age groups aren’t?   Is that the argument?  If so, what data are you using to make that claim?   If the idea is we are all losing right now, we’ll, that is hard to argue against.  But older people are probably paying the price as much as any group.  Fixed income, high need for healthcare, and difficulty or total inability to work is far worse than being young and poor.  Almost all of us were young and poor at one point.

I’m guessing young folks today are doing better than 90 years ago?   Or what about late 60s-70s?   Or what about the mid to late 2000s?   Many times young folks had it hard.  They usually came out of it just fine as an a few group.

I made nor am I looking for an argument.  It was, as stated, an opinion of mine, mine alone.  But, the middle class is shrinking and more and more young folks are living at home for a much longer period of time.  Can't get into too much as it would violate the rules of the board.  I referenced younger folks because it was what was mentioned here.  I could have referenced many categories.  As a 71-year-old, I fully understand the stresses of today's economy.

One of the most popular events on the ship is nothing but canned music

70's night on Promenade

Yes. That is my kind of music, 70's & 80's.  Reserve the Rising Tide and have a ball!
