I asked Viking about pool water and hairdryers. Here is their response.

"Please note, bringing your own hair dryer on board is a prohibited item, we supply them onboard in your cabin. The pool water is ocean water that goes through reverse osmosis."

It's use is prohibited. Surely you can bring one with you for use elsewhere?

That is so odd.  I have emailed tellus@vikingcruises.com a few times over the past few years and as recently as 2 months ago, about prohibited items -- especially hair appliances -- and have always been told, via email, that I can bring a small travel hair dryer, amongst other things.

We love  the main, infinity and spa pools but dw would love them more if they would keep the water level below 5'.  At 5'10" even a 6 footer like me has to stand on his toes.

It’s called a swimming pool isn’t it?

Isn't  reverse osmosis a means of desalination? Don't they then have to treat the water with chlorine if it is used  in a swimming pool?

There is a list of prohibited items. https://docs.vikingcruises.com/pdf/2019.08.26-Prohibited-Item-List.pdf

Yes and yes. R/O water is what comes out of the tap onboard. And I have seen crew using a water test kit at the pools so I assume it’s for testing chemicals levels.

Kind of disingenuous...ocean water that goes through reverse osmosis is basically tap water. 😅

The water from the taps has been treated to some level to prevent bacteria/algae boildup in the system.  Chengkp75 can give a more thorough answer as he is a recently retired Chief Engineer from ships.  I was deck officer.  Knew a little about a lot and knew the engine department did things but would not profess to know how to as well as them.  But I could drive the dang thing, well as long as engineering started the engines.....😎
