Bring Wine Onboard (from excursions)

We are booked next year on a cruise around Australia and have already booked several excursions to various wine regions.  We will be looking to purchases several bottles (not cases) to bring home with us but not to drink on ship.  Do we have to pay a corkage fee to bring on the ship or can we just check the bottles in when we return to ship and pick them up at the end of cruise?

You will not have to pay a fee.

I brought on six bottles in Adelaide in 2023.   No problem, port security tried to say it wasn't allowed but it was fine.

Generally, there will be a table set up near the security station on the ship when you re-board at each stop. If it's there, you will leave the bottles with the staff, they will give you a receipt, and the bottles will be put into your stateroom near the end of the voyage.  Can't speak to port security getting involved, it's never happened to us, we've only dealt with Princess security on the ship and we've never had a problem.

In January of 2019 we sailed on the Sea Princess for 28 days around all of Australia.  We purchased wine in most of the ports as we visited many of the famed wine regions of Australia.

 

We had no problems bringing the wine onboard.  Now, on how you are going to get the wine home is another question???  We consumed all of ours during the cruise.  🍷

We have often brought bottles of wine on board in various ports (not Australia) with no problems.  Most did not survive the cruises to be brought home though as Canada customs is pretty strict about that.

In Honolulu 3 months ago port security refused to let us bring wine and unopened potato chips back on board…one of our waiters grabbed them after the X-ray machine and said they were his and all of a sudden our purchases were allowed…table mates said they had the same thing happen to them.  When they pushed it further up the chain, it was “someone from the ship” who decided no food or beverages could be brought back on board…sounded rather “fishy” to me!

Interesting. In January I bought a bottle of wine in Honolulu and had no problem bringing it on board. 
Last year we got a few bottles of wine in European ports during our TA. No problem brining on board and we weren’t charged corkage when we brought a couple to the MDR.

In both cases the security was on shore run by the port, rather than in the ship.
