Going In August on the Joy which beach would you recommend and which beach is easier to get to? What is the cost for chairs & umbrellas?

I would do Horseshoe over Elbow any day-- and its a bit closer to the Dockyard than Elbow is. Someone else might be better up to speed on the cost of beach gear-- we have not been back this year yet.

Not only is Horseshoe Bay a lot closer to where your ship will be docked, it has full facilities...bar, snack bar, showers, bathrooms, while Elbow Beach has none of those.

You can also ride a $7 pp mini bus, or a $32 taxi to get to Horseshoe Bay while To get to Elbow beach you'll have a long public bus ride or a more expensive taxi ride.

As has been said Horseshoe is easier to get to. There are no permanent facilities at Elbow but last summer from Bermuda day until labour day there was a food truck and they were renting chairs and umbrellas from the truck. They were not allowed to use the private part of the beach where the closed resort is located even though the resort is closed. Whether the food truck will be back is unknown right now.
