Carnival Luminosa Transpacific Seattle to Sydney Sept 19, 2024

Recommended Posts

I just booked this last night on a whim when I saw the offer in my email.  There are so many sea days I couldn't think of anyone I'd want to spend all that down time with so I booked me as a single.  I don't need to be entertained every minute as most of my traveling companions seem to expect.  I've not done a transpacific cruise so no help there.  Been around Australia and New Zealand where the winds get out of control at times.  At one port in New Zealand we couldn't leave due to winds and were not only still tied to the dock but had a tugboat pinning us to the dock all night.  I did enjoy Sydney and hopefully I'll have forgotten how miserable that flight LAX to Sydney is after a year and half has passed before doing it again.  I also love Honolulu though we only get one day there and so many things to chose from to see and do.  So at least there will be 3 of us on the ship!

  • Host Kat changed the title to Carnival Luminosa Transpacific Seattle to Sydney Sept 19, 2024

We made a 15 day trip from LA to Hawaii and back in Dec 2011.  Did 5 days on 4 islands and saw a lot.  Is there something on the island we are on that you mreally enjoyed.  We did Pearl Harbor, Dole Pineapple and the north shore.  We really enjoyed the full day we had and had rented a jeep. The are also quite a few I'm comunicating with on a social media site that is private and you have to apply.  How we the pacific on waves and winds?  Hope it doesn't get too rough.

You went up the center of the island before past Dole so I assume it was roundtrip.  If you haven't gone to the east coast side, my favorite drive by far, the hike up Diamond Head, so worth it.  The drive takes you past Hanauma  Bay (if you snorkel it's a calm bay), Halona Blowhole, Chinaman's Hat and Makapu'u Point scenic overlooks, Sealife Park, Polynesian Cultural Center (tourist trap but rated high by said tourists), Kualoa Ranch where so many movies and tv shows have been filmed (Jurassic Park for one).  A prebooked UTV filming tour there is a blast. The Byodo-in Temple & Japanese gardens has are very unique.  Waimea Falls may be a little past these roads to return on or you may have gone there when at the North Shore. Come back down by Pali Hwy stopping at Pali Lookout or take the Likelike Hwy just for the scenery and round it off with a visit to the Punchbowl Crater National Cemetery (or start there).  You packed a lot into one day on your last visit.  I dedicate an entire day just to Pearl Harbor to include Ford Island with the USS Missouri and air museum.  If anything on this list interests you fyi Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay both require reservations like Pearl Harbor does and many of these have entrance fees.  And then there's Wakiki Beach of course and  I also love an evening luau.  You can't go wrong in Honolulu even if you only go to the zoo!

Wow, thanks for the tips.  We did 7 hours at Pearl Harbor then headed out to Dole and Waimea bay .  When we arrived they were just taking down the signs that kept everyone out of the water for the High Surf competition.  So I played in the shallows with 15 to 20 foot waves crashing in on me.  Didn't do diamond head or any of the others so will start making a list and get a car rental to visit as much as we can....Thanks

We booked today and I'm pleased to see that there's already a roll-call for this cruise!

After seeing this cruise being available, we spent the last couple of days watching videos of ship tours and previous or current transpacific crossings on the Luminosa. This will be a different Carnival ship with no Guy's Burgers, no Blue Iguana, no water slides... Looking forward to a great Serenity deck and hopefully some fantastic entertainment.

This should be about the most enjoyable way to get to Australia!

We booked this cruise a couple of months ago.  Excited/nervous!  We both wanted to get close to seeing some of what both of our father’s saw while in the South Pacific during WWII.  Except without a war going on around us.

Welcome sealx & F3rpect.  The serneity deck is quite extensive and some places you can rent cabana type places for the day.  There's a hot Dog/Burger place to get a quick cook one one deck 9 forward of the pool in the midship, if it is like the Spirit we were just on, and from the deck plans looks like it.  With a cruise this long I imagine we will not be getting a lot of younsters...Has anyone checked how the seas will be at that time of the year.  Did a 15 day to Hawaii and back in December and the seas were fine....My Dad was also in the Pacific during WWII and flew nose gunner in a PBM, water landing craft on sub hunt for the fleet...That is about all I ever got out of him and I think my mom told me that....

I used to be on CruiseCritic years ago, but couldn't find my old account so I started another...  We just booked the 22 day Transpacific this week!  So excited.  It's just the two of us, but I have friends on FB asking so who knows...  Looking forward to meeting people here and hopefully on the ship as well!

Hi, I am happy to see this thread.  I booked in April 2023. I am traveling solo, live in Lake County Florida, taken many TAs and this will be my second TP.  I will also be on the Carnival Splendor on Oct 13, 2024 leaving out of Sydney for 8 day South Pacific.  I am already in the fb groups associated with these sailings.  Events and lively discussions and queries are posted. I have entered my information on the excel spreadsheet.  Thanks.  Look forward to meeting you all.

Just put this cruise on hold, love its a cheaper price due to the small amount of ports, since I have to pay double as a solo and am not a gambler so don't get the deals lol.  Can't wait for the Polynesian Islands, have been to Fiji on 3 land vacays but can't wait for that either.  Heading to the Luminosa in Sept for the 30 day to Brisbane, so am excited to see the ship then.

I was on the Splendor to Singapore and that was Oct.  Ocean was perfect for our entire trip.

Hi everyone! My sister and I booked this cruise back in March with a fabulous casino offer. Too good to pass up! I just sailed solo on the TP Luminosa April 13th sailing from Brisbane to Seattle. Best trip of my life. Met some fabulous people and had loads of fun. Really looking forward to this cruise!

Just stopping in to say HI!!  Will be looking at flights by November.  Then wait until February to get a room in Seattle for a night or 2.  Have cousins in the area to visit so will definitely go early.  Here is our list of CC members.  Drop me a line if you want to add anything to our list...

Hi Everyone,

We are 3 booked on this cruise also the Splendor on the 13th.  We did the transpacific in 2022 to Sydney and the seas were awesome.  Only had rain on the day we reached Sydney (the first cruise ship back there since the pandemic).  It was so much fun and so relaxing.

Hello Everyone -

My husband and I just booked this cruise last week.  As someone else mentioned, a fantastic casino offer that we couldn't pass up.  Glad to hear some of the positives from those that have done this sailing before.  I have never been on a cruise longer than 7 days, so I'm a little concerned about so many sea days in a row.  We have some family that we cruise with sometimes, but haven't mentioned this cruise to them because I wasn't sure how it would be spending that much time together.  😆

How is the weather usually on a TP?  Will it be warm enough to be up on deck to enjoy the sun?

By the way, we are from Kansas City.
