We recently stayed at El Colonial and we liked it, as long as you don't mind that there is no elevator.
TayanaLorna Posted April 9, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2023 There is a Sheraton across the street from the port. It is convenient to the docks and walking in Old San Juan.

Rare Clay Clayton Posted April 9, 2023 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2023 If you budget doesn’t allow for the recommendations of the previous posters, we have stayed at the Hyatt House and found it great for our one night only precruise stays.

Ray4Fun Posted April 9, 2023 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2023 IF Viking still docks in Old Town, The Sheraton is across the street. As in walk out the side door (Front door is on side st) and about 200' away is the ship. I think the ship is longer than the walk to. Last time we were at the Sheraton was early 19 just before C. It is also walking distance to Old Town. It is an uber convenient for location for sure. Note, then the hotel was a bit old. Clean for sure just older. Nothing to rave about. However if you want to wake up and look out your window to see your cabin almost in front of you then the Sheraton may be a great choice. The Hyatt House is a really nice new hotel . We were there a couple of months back. The RCL ship was docked over there, away from Old Town. We wanted to be closer to ship than town. Make sense?
Rare Vineyard View Posted April 9, 2023 #8 Share Posted April 9, 2023 If you are staying longer than one night and want authentic, we recommend El Convento. We loved it. Easy cab/Uber ride with bags, and easy walking to everyplace. If convenience is the priority then Sheraton across the street from the terminal. TayanaLorna Posted April 9, 2023 #9 Share Posted April 9, 2023 If all you want is 1 night at a hotel before boarding just in case there are flight delays, try the airport hotel. Friends stayed there because it was the only place they could find that was $200 or less ($199). They arrived at 3:30 pm, checked into hotel, took Uber to have a great Puerto Rican meal at an uncrowded restaurant right on the water in Pinones, slept at hotel, had breakfast and took taxi to ship boarding right after 11 am. Got there before the noontime Viking pre extension buses arrived and had the whole day on the ship or to explore OSJ.
Rare LindaS272 Posted April 9, 2023 #10 Share Posted April 9, 2023 We stayed at the Hotel 352 just up from the port in Old San Juan last year in late March before the TA to BCN and schlepped our bags down to the ship the next day.
Jim Avery Posted April 9, 2023 #11 Share Posted April 9, 2023 As has been stated the Sheraton Old San Juan is very convenient. In December it was also very tired. Long overdue for a refit. And when Southwest left us and hundreds more stranded it immediately went to $600 a night. Never let a crisis go to waste, right? If you are looking for nicer for a couple of days and if the budget allows, the beach strip known as the Condado is a short cab ride from the docks and has beaches, pools, etc.🍹
