Tell me about Chioggia Italy

Boarded Journey on Saturday (15th April) from Chioggia. VCE to Grande Italia took about 45mins at 9:30pm, cost around €135 with City Airport Taxis. Grande Italia very comfortable with fabulous breakfast and at a fair price. Lovely helpful staff too. Chioggia itself is very pretty and wished we’d stayed an extra night. The ship docks close by but you need to head a fair way down to reach the only bridge to cross the canal. Probably not doable with luggage. Taxis are very limited in this small town with lots of canals. Grande Italia was very proactive in booking guests together to help share the cost. We were put with another pair and split the quite hefty €25 cost for a 5 min ride. Check in was swift and we were aboard in very short order. Back to the Azamara of old! There are zero facilities at the terminal. No real seating and not much cover in the event of rain or strong sun. But like I said, wasn’t an issue as check in was efficient. But not a place to expect to sit around and enjoy a coffee and a good book! For those debarking in Chioggia the taxi situation is an issue. Ensure you are organised as you won’t be picking up a taxi dockside very easily.

On the plus side Chioggia is a great place to start your cruise and certainly beats the nightmare that was last year in Ravenna. If you’re organised it is a breeze. Journey is running smoothly and despite the weather we’re having a great time. White Night tonight in Kotor, whats not to love?

We’re doing back to back Best of the Med September 26 and then Croatia Intensive on October 7.

We’ve done Croatia. It was beautiful, but Dubrovnik was so busy and somewhat of a disappointment.  The rest of that cruise we loved.  It was actually on a 10 day back to back in 2917.

Dubrovnik is always crowded. The best time to go is as early in the day as possible. That’s the best time to walk the walls too.

We were there on our first Azamara cruise in 2012. We walked the walls and took the cable car. We booked this one to use our 4 free days. There are a couple ports we haven’t been to before.

I'm sure it is very busy in anything like the high season, but we were there four days ago when it was very pleasant and definitely not crowded.

We are booked on an Italy extensive cruise in October. The ship sails out of Chioggia and not Venice, although we would fly into Venice. I’ll like information about transfers from Venice airport to that port. Are there hotels there and what do people do about transfers?  We’ve been to Venice several times before so if we would skip staying there for a day it would not be missed.

Hi, is that the October 12, 2023 one?  We are on it along with another couple.  Procrastinated a long time time but finally planning this one.  Have you planned any of the excursions yet?
