Return flight from San Diego?

How early may one safely book a return flight from San Diego?

Asked here frequently. You can do 11am. Some will say earlier,  but every once in awhile there seems to be Immigration and Customs glitches...so I am not completely comfortable with earlier.

I agree on 11AM as the earliest "safe" time. The airport is less than three miles.

Except when it's not --- our original departing flight from SD was 11 a.m. but Alaska changed it to 1:48 pm....not happy but it turned out fine since we didn't even get off the ship until 10:45 am --don't know what the reason for the delay was.
