Anchorage in the Evening with our Grandson

We are taking our grandson with us on an AK cruise and a driving trip.  We end up in Anchorage with a flight that takes off at 1:00 AM.  Rather than sit around the airport for 5 or 6 hours we are looking for something to do with him in the evening.  The best idea that we have come up with is to take him to the movies which is a pretty lame place to spend you last evening in AK at.  We will have a car that we planned to turn in earlier but we could turn it in closer to when we have to be back at the airport.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We had a long time in Vancouver after disembarking (in may). We’d already spent five days exploring Vancouver pre cruise so ended up going to the movies which worked out great. We didn’t want to be worn out for our very long flight back to Australia.

Check out the park and trails near the airport. If you have suitcases make sure they are out of sight when parking. Maybe rent bikes. You don't say when but likely daylight until late. Seaplanes viewing at lake hood and small plane museum (closes at 5). Lots to do near the airport. Coastal Trail | Visit Anchorage and Alaska Aviation Air Museum Anchorage - Alaska Aviation Museum - Anchorage (alaskaairmuseum.org)

It depends on age and interests. Suitable activities for a grandson who is 30 years old are likely different than a grandson who is 4 years old. A more complete description of your grandson would be helpful.

He is 12 going on 15 or 16.  He does love sports.

Glen Alps that AKStafford suggested would be good. Great views of the Anchorage bowl and some trails to explore before it gets dark. Out by the airport is Pt Woronzof. From the parking area you can walk down to the beach and explore. Continuing on Pt Woronzof Rd behind the airport is a good area to watch aircraft come and go. If you go far enough down the road you may also see a moose or two. As an alternative you could go to Get Air and wear him out on the trampolines before your flight. Also, renting bikes and riding the coastal trail can make for a very nice evening with great views. Check out Pablo’s.
