Nieue Statendam Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona April 2023 (12 days)

Rotterdam Fort Lauderdale thru NYC to Rotterdam to Amsterdam (30 days)

Basically no lectures except the "canned" cruise director presentations.  On 150 anniversary sailing this year, we had Bill Miller doing historic lectures on the history of cruising.  We also had a pianist from NYC who we enjoyed.  America's Test Kitchen, Microsoft lab and Lincoln Center quartet are gone, gone, gone.  Just the music walk stuff.

The smoke from the casino permeates the entire front of Rotterdam, including the World Stage, Music Walk, hallways, forward stairwells and the forward elevators.  I am hyper sensitive to the smoke, so I did not go to any activities in the music walk area except as required to do customs (World Stage), or shore excursion meeting point.  I wore a mask or covered my mouth/nose with hand towels from the women's bathrooms.  Even the shops were permeated with the smoke smell.  I won't be doing this ship again....

Free laundry was taking 48 hours to get clothes back, as virtually everyone on the ship were repeat customers.

This can’t be true.  Several people have reported that the smoke doesn’t leave the casino on Pinnacle class ships.

I hardly smelled it when we walked thru the casino....never smelled it when outside the casino.

We've been on the Nieuw Statendam, Koningsdam and Rotterdam.....

See, I knew this would happen.  The OP experienced something, please don’t try to minimize their experience.  Please take the OP at face value when they reported smoke outside of the casino that affected their cruise experience.

There is nothing wrong with others reporting their experiences.  It doesn’t minimize the posters experiences.  It just shows that there can be different experiences.  Perhaps the machines were not working well on the poster’s cruise?  I’m not sure.

I’ve only been on the Koningsdam of the 3 Pinnacle Class ships and those smoke eater machines were doing a great job.  You could barely smell the smoke in the casino even when you walked by the smoking section. (And you did walk by to get to the bar).

I suspect it may depend on a) if the machines are on (they were on the Koningsdam) and b) if they are working well.  Just my best guess.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  You think think the smoke eater machines are working well because you can barely smell the smoke while someone sensitive to second hand smoke would call that a failure.

You missed the entire point of my post and the other 2 posters who reported as I did.

I was not on the poster’s cruise that suffered with the smoke, nor were they on mine nor the other 2 posters who posted the same experience I did.

Experiences vary on different cruises.  What I experience you may not and what the poster you seem to think is absolutely correct for every single cruise experienced may not be experienced either.  Every cruise is NOT the same - whether it be smoke in the casino, food quality, service, etc.

Different people will report different experiences.  that’s a good thing IMO as it gives overall experiences, not just one.

Nope, you missed the point.  You said you barely smelled smoke.  That’s bad. It would have been bad on your cruise and it’s bad on my current cruise.

On the 150th Anniversary TA (+10 nights after), the casino was quite crowded at times; empty at others.  The smoking side was packed many nights.  I could smell smoke in the non-smoking section but not really over by the tables.  I can see how it could drift down the staircase toward the Music Walk area but don't recall.  As I didn't go to any shows, I have no idea whether the smoke drifted forward or not.  Walking forward into the casino from the shopping hallway, I didn't notice it until I was in the casino.

As a former smoker with many allergies and a hyper-sensitive nose (you women who soak yourselves in perfume!) who is very sensitive to smoke, I always notice smoke when it's around so, yes, I did smell smoke.  I cannot say I noticed that it permeated other areas, though.

I was just a bit miffed that some of my favorite slots were only to be found in the smoking section so I only played them early on sea days when the place was empty.  As soon as a smoker would show up, I'd leave.
