NCL Newbie Wifi Question

First time on NCL. Any input is appreciated.

1. When are we going to receive wifi login credentials?

2. Our 1st and 2nd guests each has 150 mins of free wifi. We plan to use one of them on Day 1 and upgrade the other one to basic unlimited on Day 2 or Day 3. If we upgrade via NCL’s app/website, do we need to pay via the app/website? Can we add that amount to our onboard account instead?

3. If upgrading via app/website requires us to pay via the app/website, while we are on the ship, can we go to guest service or internet cafe to upgrade and add the amount to our onboard account?

Thank you.

They're not sent to you, I believe it's your name and cabin number.

If you upgrade pre-cruise you have to pay pre-cruise.  Your on-board account is for... expenses on board the ship

I would use one of the minutes all up then upgrade since the upgrade cost is by how many days are left.  Check with the internet cafe after the first day when they are not so busy.  It also depends on your cruise while you are in port you can use your own phones international plan if you have one or free wifi at the port or....

When you board and connect to the ship's intranet with the app, you will be prompted for your name and birthdate. Those are your credentials.

You can/should stay connected to the ship's intranet all the time. When you want to go to the internet, you go to the URL loginnow.com. When you log on for the first time, it gives you the option to use your minutes or upgrade. Upgrades are charged to your room account.

2-3 days prior to departure, the NCL website is disabled and you can not change your reservation as it is transferred to ship's control. From that point until departure, you can only display your eDocs. After departure, the website deletes your reservation.

Thanks.   We are boarding today but currently in hotel in departure city.   I downloaded the app and found our reservation, but having lots of trouble with the app such as "this page did not display properly" errors, and others.    Is it possible errors will go away when connected to ship wifi?   I already tried re-installing the app.   It is currently unusable with these errors....

We did the New Zealand/Australia cruise last Jan/Feb, the internet on the ship was virtually non-existent. Took 20 minutes to pull up my Yahoo Mail, but could never get any further then that. The guy in the Internet Cafe, he did not work for NCL, but the company that handled the internet, told me it was worthless on that cruise. We just connected at the ports that we arrived at. Our internet was included free, so no $$$$ lost. Just a waste of time trying to use it. Be prepared for that.

We just got off of the Joy.   I would say the 150 free minutes are worthless.   Not only slow, but very cumbersome.   You need to login and it starts the 150 minute clock, then you need to go to a logout page to stop the clock when you are done browsing.   If you don't logout properly, the clock runs whether you are browsing or not, your phone could be off and at the bottom of the ocean, and the minutes will still accumulate.    The system is so slow, the logout page sometimes doesn't load properly, so you have no way of turning the clock off.   We did not try the upgraded package, but I would be real skeptical on that too...

How do I connect to the ship’s intranet please?

While travelling along US/Canada coast, would it be possible to use cellular data during “at sea” days?

No. You would have to be no more than 2 miles off shore. Ships sail well out to sea. (At least 12 miles to be in international waters). You need to put your phone away or have an WiFi plan if you want to access the internet.
