petuniaflower Posted September 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2023 Hello, it been close to 10 year since we've ported here but were hoping to do the same this time around..we walked to the castle from the port, then was $5 per person to enter/explore the castle. Does anyone know which castle this would have been and if the self tours is still available? We also will have a group of different aged kids, so any additional recommendations to/from the castle/port are welcome! Thx!

I assume you mean one or both of the forts in Old San Juan that are part of the San Juan National Historic Site, Castillo San Cristobal and the better-known Castillo San Felipe del Morro, more commonly known as El Morro. Admission with access to both forts is $10 for adults. Children age 15 and younger are admitted free of charge. https://www.nps.gov/saju/index.htm There's also La Fortaleza, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/266/ Edited September 14, 2023 by njhorseman

Is La Fortaleza also walking distance/similar to the other 2?

Pretty much everything in Old San Juan is within walking distance of everything else. Going uphill from the cruise terminal to the forts can be a bit of a trudge in the hot humid weather.
mrpayroll Posted September 23, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2023 El Morro is the furthest away. We usually walk along the water until we get to the red gate to enter the city.

Anyone know if theres a map around with best route from cruise ship to the castles?
