Drinks onboard the Enchanted Princess

So let me be real, this is the first time I had a drinks package (Princess Plus) on any cruise line and I was a bit disappointed! So many times I would order a drink and it would be completely wrong.

I’m typically the girl that brings as many bottles of wine that she can on board 🤣

I ordered an old fashioned and it had clubs soda in it.

I ordered an Aperol Spritz and it was just not made up to par.

ordered a speciality cocktail that was supposed to be sweet and somehow was made with cinnamon whisky.

After a while we finally found places making drinks correctly but if I wasn’t on a drink package I would be so disappointed.

what’s your favorite drink and bar on a Princess ship?

Ketel One martini on the rocks, no vermouth.

Which essentially nets me a double shot of vodka for the price of one, and hard to screw up.

I don't do many cocktails at all, mainly for the reasons you mentioned.. different bartenders make them different and it's not great.

When I do feel for a mixed drink - it's a Cartagena Cool or Sandia en Fuego at Good Spirits.

Or a dirty martini at Crooners...

Mai Tai - only sailed on Sky but they know how to do them IMO in Bellini's

I tried a sidecar, and then a cable car on Sapphire in the Wheelhouse last month.  Very sweet.  Like licking a lemon lollipop. My usual is a Woodford Manhattan. The only time it was messed up was my final night on Caribbean Princess in March when the Wheelhouse bartender made an old fashioned instead.  He set it in front of me and said “I made a mistake”. Then he remade the drink.

I've found cocktails to be subpar on most cruises - they use a lot of sugary mixes. I try and stick with simple cocktails - ie. gin and tonic, etc. Sandia en Fuego from Good Spirits is a favorite of mine. Some of the other cocktails at that bar are decent too - the menu at that bar focuses on craft cocktails and fresh ingredients.

My go-to drinks are the Chairman of the Board (3X Vodka, 3X gin, 1X Cointreau) or Ian Flemings's original James Bond martini from Casino Royale, the Vesper (1X Vodka, 3X Gin, 1/2X Kina Lillet)

When I make a COTB here at home with the exact formulation above, it compares pretty well with what I received in a number of bars on the Discovery last week.

Unfortunately, many of the Princess drink recipes (these are company recipies) are more about size (large) and looks.  If you want properly made cocktails, befriend the bar tender and tell them exactly what you want.  Living in Mexico for many years (winter months), we are well versed in a proper Margarita and the Princess recipie is anything but!  We once gave a real Margarita recipie to a friendly bar tender (he made it) but he explained that making the drink properly would not come close to filling the glass that Princess specifies for their margarita's.  So, in order to fill the glass, they must use mixes and other non-alcohol product to bring up the volume (and ruin the cocktail).

Fortunately for us, we are happy with basic drinks like straight or on the rocks whisky.  Even an amateur bar tender cannot ruin those kind of drinks.  A glass of Cognac cannot be ruined (unless they use bad cognac).  Lets face it, Princess uses commercial drink mixers (out of cartons) that are full of fillers and preservatives.  How about a real pina colada made with Coco Lopez and decent pineapple juice?  It ain't going to happen on Princess.

On the Enchanted the best bar was Good Spirits.
Sandia en Fuego was the drink name it was sweet because of the Melon but with a twist of spike with the Jalapeño.

This is exactly my favorite drink, hard to mess up!

We frequent Crooner's and really enjoy it there. If I do have a drink will try a Lemon Drop, but do not always enjoy it especially if they use sour mix to make it, so often stick with Ketel One or glass of wine.

Years ago, Princess made a great rimmed Bloody Mary, but haven't been able to have that replicated unfortunately.
