Can I use onboard credit in the Casino on Norwegian Getaway? Will unused onboard credit be returned (credited back to my credit card) if not used during our cruise? Thanks.

REFUNDABLE OBC can be used. If you have a positive balance of OBC, you must "cash out" before disembarking. The last night of your cruise, go to Guest Services (late to avoid the crowds) and cash out and close your room account.

If you get to security on the gangway and try to disembark with a positive balance, you will be stopped and directed to a [long] line for a cashier to get your cash back. The line is normally long and slow because the majority of people are there because they are trying to leave without paying, and every one of them will be arguing with the cashier.

Just to echo what BirdTravels said, but want to add that Refundable OBC can be used, but it is subject to the 3% fee to pull cash at the casino.  It’s annoying.  It’s your money, but you have to pay a fee to use it.  You also can’t cash it out until the last day of the cruise.  I had a significant amount of refundable OBC on my cruise last week.  I tried to get cash for it earlier in the week.  No go.  I went first thing on the last sea day and collected the cash.

Nonrefundable OBC cannot be used in the casino.

I wanted to add that I had a voicemail from Guest Services reminding me to cash it out.  They were also calling names as we were disembarking telling them to go to the OBC desk to cash out.

I was told on the Joy to come to GS the evening before the last full day, so if Sunday disembarking then come Friday eve.  I did and they gave me my cash.  I suspect this is ship specific or maybe even employee specific.  They have some wiggle room I would think.   Avoid the night before embarkation if possible.

Unused credit would NOT, under normal circumstances, be returned to your credit card. Reason being, banks do not like having a refund request on an account that doesn't have a corresponding expenditure.

There is no link between the credit card you used to book your cruise/excursions and your onboard expenditures, so if you have an outstanding balance at the end of the cruise, you might not have any  NCL expenditures on that card.

I have gone to GS in the morning on the last full day - to avoid the lines.  They grumbled but I got my refund.
