Northern Swan Posted November 12, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2023 (edited) Hello… I did search the forum and the Seabourn site before posting this question, and while I found lots of great info about dress codes and the number of formal nights per cruise, I haven’t been able to get any estimate of when the formal nights will be. We are going on a 14-day Alaska cruise in June 2024 on the Odyssey. If anyone has done this itinerary, it would be great to hear from you as to which evenings we might expect the formal nights to be scheduled on. Many thanks! 2SailingNomads Posted November 12, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2023 Usually not known until you are on-board. If a sea day then that is a good candidate.
Earthtones Posted November 13, 2023 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2023 I am no expert, but I believe that in most cases, formal night is on the first sea day of each 7-day segment that makes up your itinerary. This past summer on my Odyssey cruise in Alaska it was on day 2 of the southbound segment (Glacier Bay).
aliaschief Posted November 13, 2023 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2023 The name Formal is rather miss leading these days when a sports coat and open collar will get one into Restaurant. On another line they went from Formal Night to Gala Night to now Dressy Night!
Covepointcruiser Posted November 13, 2023 #5 Share Posted November 13, 2023 Be assured that Cunard still has Gala evening and most men wear tuxes.

If one enjoys formal then they should cruise Cunard’s ships. Just not us. We dress well just done with formal wear.
2SailingNomads Posted November 17, 2023 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2023 We recently received our documents for our December Regent cruise. Listed in that package are the days for formal night. I don't know why Seabourn cannot tell people in advance.
SLSD Posted November 18, 2023 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2023 (edited) I have never really understood why some people feel a need to know which nights are formal nights. For us, it makes no difference. We have gone to the TK Grill for formal nights as well as to the Restaurant. It doesn't change our choice of dress. We have also dined at Earth and Ocean on formal night and not dressed formally. Just go with the flow. It's easy to adjust what you wear--or what you expect. Northern Swan Posted November 18, 2023 Author #9 Share Posted November 18, 2023 I suspect everyone has very good reasons for asking questions posted on the discussion forums. In our case, our query had nothing to do with what to wear but is related to timing of activities or excursions and narrowing down which nights we prefer to dine in a specialty restaurant vs the main dining room. I appreciate the useful info that’s been posted here and thank everyone for sharing their insights.

However, I have found that the best laid plans are often stymied by events beyond our control. I will say that formal nights are often held on sea days--so there would be no excursions off the ship. Covepointcruiser Posted November 22, 2023 #13 Share Posted November 22, 2023 Formal evenings will change, especially if you miss a port. We are on the Ovation and the first formal night changed.
Earthtones Posted November 22, 2023 #14 Share Posted November 22, 2023 I would think it would be very rare to miss a port in Alaska!

There are people who like to book spa and/ or hair appointments for the formal nights. It doesn't matter to you- but it does matter to some. t would like Seabourn to list the formal evenings
