Tender journey

It's possible that Madeira may be a tender port for our upcoming cruise.  Can anyone tell me how long the journey from the ship to the port is please?

Anything is possible, but not knowing what your upcoming cruise is then it becomes difficult to be precise.

That would depend on where the ship drops anchor on the day.

We'll be travelling to Madeira and the Canaries, on QV, leaving on 24 November.

 

I think this will be our 7th on this particular cruise.

 

We've never had to tender in. Always docked.

 

What makes you think tendering might be necessary?

Funchal is often shown as a possible tender port especially at NYE. But in numerous calls there we have never tendered. On NYE the ship will usually go to anchor or use DP outside the harbour after 1800 to give a better view of the fireworks.

If you are on the Christmas cruise, some sites are showing Funchal hosting 9 ships on New Year’s Eve.

5 of those ships arrive between 1400 and 2200 so almost certainly wait outside the harbour see Funchal port authority website
