CulverCityCruisers Posted January 22 #1 Share Posted January 22 Preparing for our 11 day sailing on the Breeze and have read that you should use "Reef Safe" sunscreen. Anyone have experience with this and if so what do you recommend ?
FlightMedic555 Posted January 22 #2 Share Posted January 22 Lots of info here. It is recommended that you use legitimate reef safe sunscreen to obviously preserve the coral. I wear a long sleeve rash guard (and sometimes pants as well). Minimizing the amount of skin exposed to the sun reduces the areas that need any sunscreen. https://www.tropicalsnorkeling.com/best-snorkeling-sunscreen/
Daddioppp Posted January 23 #3 Share Posted January 23 I agree with FlightMedic555 on the rash guard recommendation. I like Badger sunscreens, also reef-safe. https://www.badgerbalm.com/collections/mineral-sunscreen
Rare HaveDogWillTravel Posted January 24 #4 Share Posted January 24 I use Kinfield. https://kinfield.com/products/sunglow I have extremely sensitive skin. This reef safe sunscreen goes on light and does not irritate my skin at all. I applaud you for being conscientious enough to research this. The Quadfather Posted January 24 #5 Share Posted January 24 (edited) It may not be what you're asking for but I bought a full suit from here. https://www.ecostinger.com/ I'm fair skinned and instead of using a gallon of sunscreen every snorkeling expedition this worked out great for me. I probably looked like dork, but I didn't end up in miserably sunburned. Edited January 24 by The Quadfather
Pudgesmom Posted January 25 #6 Share Posted January 25 Don’t forget the back of your legs above the knee. I made that mistake once. My SPF shirt did great, but I missed the memo on my thighs. Ouch!
wolverineinOH Posted January 26 #7 Share Posted January 26 I've used thinksport/thinkbaby (I also have sensitive skin) which was in the article linked above. Worked great
