eagles09 Posted February 5 #1 Share Posted February 5 We are about to go on our first Viking Cruise from Auckland on 13th February. We have been given embarkation time of 1pm. Will there be lunch available at any of the restaurants after this time?
Rare OneSixtyToOne Posted February 5 #2 Share Posted February 5 (edited) Here is a thread about where to eat on embarkation day. The World Cafe and Pool Grill are open for lunch until 3:00 PM. From 3-5 the pool grill has snacks. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2912611-best-place-for-lunch-on-embarkation-day/?do=findComment&comment=64764478 Edited February 5 by OneSixtyToOne

But it may also be that your "Room" is available for you at 1:00 pm. The two are different. Many people have in the past have confused their "Room Available" time to be the embarkation time. Nearly every cruise we take, we've been able to "Get on board - embark" at round 11 AM, even though our room is not available until later that afternoon (like 1 pm for PV rooms).
Rare Peregrina651 Posted February 5 #4 Share Posted February 5 Unless there are extraordinary circumstances, Viking tries not to have guests hanging around the terminal and will begin boarding once the departing guests have cleared the gangway. Check in and boarding is first-come-first served and not by cabin category. Cabin ready time is a latest time. Check your cabin when you board. Fleet-wide goal is to have all cabins ready by 2pm. There is only one shipwide announcement regarding cabins and that is when all of the cabins are ready. Your cabin stewards will be on the watch for you. They want to introduce themselves and to give you a tour of your cabin, answer your question and find out if you have any request (extra towels, extra/different pillows, special requests for the mini-fridge, etc.) 4

Of course the first sentence applies only to those who arrive with Viking Air on the day of boarding (or a pre-extension). When you do your own airfare you can pretty much board anytime 11 am on. duquephart Posted February 5 #6 Share Posted February 5 You can board anytime 11 am on regardless of how you arrived.
eagles09 Posted February 6 Author #7 Share Posted February 6 Thank you everyone for your responses. We have a PV1 so guess we will be joining the queue at 11am and hoping to access our room around 1pm. Who cares if we have to wait. We will be onboard ready to enjoy our maiden Viking voyage.

My money is on Noon, even though there is the whole ship to turn around. (At the same time, you should be warned that there is a reason I am not a gambler.) Check the room when you board, it might be far enough along that you can leave your bags in the room rather than having to drag them to lunch with you.

We are PV and can access the room at 1 per Viking. But we usually board about 11, drop our carry ons in the room or in the hall, and go to lunch. Oh, we will do this in 8 days. Can’t wait!
