Casual Dining reservations

We were able to make reservations for the specialty restaurants and the MDRs in the app, but wanted to ask about the casual locations like Alfredo's.  Do you just show up and wait, or can you make reservations once you are onboard?

On every ship I have been on since the change no reservations for any casual dining venue

yep, since there's a charge now it's wide open. Kinda like a bar full of sailors and the shore patrol shows up.

I have never seen any of these venues full of people. Just off the Croen and for the first few days they were begging people to eat in the Gastropub.

On the Caribbean Princess last October, they encouraged reservations for Planks and Steamers.

I understand that, but these venues also have an extra change, whereas the quick service locations and buffet do not.

Just got off the Emerald Princess, you had to make reservations for the casual dining venues or else turned away.  We did try the planks one night and steamers on another night.  Reservations were handled by calling the dine line. We tried the app, and couldn’t do it.

On our last sailing on the Sky (transatlantic, Nov. 2023) Alfredo's was almost totally vacant the whole cruise.  We had booked Premier for a change...we basically just walked up and were seated within 1 minute.  On the last full day of the cruise, it was packed!  I guess everybody who had Plus came to realize that it's "use it or lose it" time!

We've never been on the Emerald...have never seen that on other ships.

First time on the Emerald ourselves.  Patter always said reservation required, and when we tried the walk up we were denied. Maybe having a party of 7 had something to do with it, don’t know.

Never saw that before for CD.  Must have been super popular.

 

It is possible you had a large percentage of passengers with the Premier and Plus packages.

On Enchanted last month, no reservations for casual spots. Contrary to other reports they were pretty busy, in fact full with a wait. O’Malley’s which is a smaller space was always packed.
