KhanOfKhans Posted February 8 #1 Share Posted February 8 I recently booked an 11-night cruise on MSC Meraviglia out of New York for next year. The price was fantastic and I think the ship looks stunning, but something I’ve read recently concerns me. Apparently you can smoke on one whole side of the pool deck, which is concerning as someone who cannot stand the scent of it. I have no issues with smokers, do whatever you want, but I’m concerned that smoke smell will be everywhere on the pool deck and I won’t be able to sit out there comfortably. I know you can smoke in the casino too, but I don’t gamble so I don’t think that will be an issue. Is the smoke situation really bad, or is it not something I’m likely to notice? Rare PistolPete13 Posted February 8 #2 Share Posted February 8 Hi, I was just on an 11 day sailing on this ship last month and yes, one entire side of the pool deck area is dedicated for smokers. Only the covered section where there are tables set up have ash trays on them. Not for nothing but I ended up kicking myself for taking the wrong side walk the across the pool deck the first few days before I learned. There were a lot of smokers probably due to more Europeans on the sailing, just a guess. That said, the smoke didn't carry very far on the pool deck at all I found. If you're on the non-smoking side, I don't think you'd notice a thing. Pete

You will regret it if you accidentally end up walking down the wrong side of the pool deck when traversing the length of the ship, but on the other side, you should be fine. It’s not something I’ve heard many complaints about in reviews, so I figured it probably wouldn’t be too much of a problem, but it’s good to get confirmation.

The YC staterooms are WAY forward of the outdoor pool deck. You have the entire enclosed Bamboo pool area in between you and the outdoor pool. I can't imagine it would be an issue. miched Posted February 9 #11 Share Posted February 9 I am happy that most cruise ships limits smoking areas and more people are quitting the smoking habit. Being in an area where smoking is allowed can be avoided. What I find is worse is that the smoker is around you in a confined area and they reek of smoke. You could be sitting in the theater and they come and sit next to you or around you, same as being seated in a restaurant, tour bus, shuttle and etc. In those situations many times you can’t move away from them. Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
