Back to back guests.

Recommended Posts

Does Regent offer tours for embarkation day for back to back guests.  Just trying to decide what to do as I think we have to leave the ship.

Does anyone know for how long ?
We are having to change cabins and have searched the board for information and this seems straight forward enough. Any hints advice etc gratefully received.

Whether you need to leave the ship depends on the local government authorities.  Sometimes you only need to tag off and tag on again.  But yes, an excursion for B2B guests is offered on changeover day.

Last Summer we were given the information during the first leg of our B2B.  Since our changeover day was in Southampton, we decided to enjoy a day having the ship to ourselves and had a wonderfully peaceful couple of hours (though not as long as we thought!)  The tour offered was to Winchester.

@GillyA good tour choice from Southampton, don’t you think 😊?

We have just come off a B2B in the Caribbean. Everybody did have to disembark the Ship in San Juan. Excursions were provided, and as ours was an early morning one it didn't affect us. Information was given to us prior to arrival in San Juan as to what the procedure would be.

HINT: if you do get off the ship for a B2B, carry your passport with you!

In November, I was on a turn around in Athens and opted to do an excursion. We were told we would only need our key card. By the time our excursion was headed back to Port, Regent called the guide to tell her that Greece changed their minds, and we would need our passports! Most of us had them in our suite safe. Meant a long walk back onboard, retrieve the passport, go back down and go through regular check in at Port. Even those who did not leave the ship had to go down and check in through the Port.

It really depends on the port where the back-to-back is connecting the two. Different customs rules apply depending on the port which will impact what Regent has to do in that port.

Our latest back-to-back took place in Miami...there were a couple of tours offered for us b2bs and when our tour came back we met by a ship's officer who led us through the crowd of passengers waiting to board for the second half of our b2b and to the ship.  Even though we had cruised in the Caribbean and stopped in some Mexican ports during the first part of the b2b I don't remember anything required from customs for us in Miami.

YMMV

An excellent choice which we would have taken up, had it not been for the fact that we'd been fairly recently and spent a lovely day with dear friends...

Thanks for the tip about Greece. Our back to back “Port” is Athens.
We will carry our Passports.

Unfortunately we have been to Athens quite often and therefore hope there is interesting tour and not just the usual sites.

TS and Gilly:

Submitted for your consideration.

The City of Winchester and Cathedral tour taken on an Explorer b/t/b was, indeed memorable.  Information supplied for those staying-on for the next leg around The British Isles was provided a few days before Southampton.  Timed to get the 16-or-so of us signees back in plenty of time for a casual unhurried lunch and people-watching as the new group arrived for the second leg.

That was the plan.

Sooos.  Wonderful tour with a great Guide in good weather to City, Cathedral, and sites.  Back to, and on bus at the appointed time and place--the predesignated street corner.  Guide calls out couples' names.  Hands go up.  Advises all are accounted for.  Bus starts back to Southampton--on schedule, even a few minutes ahead of schedule, advises Guide who complements us on being punctual.

Starts another commentary.  This guy was no spring chicken.  Obviously, he had done this itinerary before.

About a third of the way back, comes three words one does not want to hear from a fellow passenger--on a bus, train, or airplane:

"Where's my wife?"  [Or, flip-side, where's my husband]

But, back to the story. Conversation with Guide.  Husband heard to tell Guide he "thought" his wife had boarded, and was in the 'loo.  Knocks on door do not prompt a response.  More knocks on the door; maybe she fainted.  Bus stops.  Door opened.  Empty.

Reverse direction.  Very-agitated husband.  Back to city-center.  Looking for wife begins near the appointed place.  And--there she was--about a half-block away.  Back on bus, now late, way-late.

Silence on the way back to Port.  Silence getting off the bus.

Anyways---it was a memorable tour.  Lesson for Guide:  Do the head-count, head-by-head.  Then, do it again.

Happy trails to all--until we meet again.

GOARMY!

Whether (and how many different) excursions are offered depends on how many people are “in transit”—in other words, on B2Bs.  There have to be enough people to make it worthwhile to set them up. Then enough people have to sign up to make it worthwhile to run it.
