1500 points, but already purchased the drink package.

Recommended Posts

Has anyone hit the 1500 points in the casino and already purchased that drink package and asked the host for something else? I always buy the drink package and always hit 1500, but never thought to ask the host about it before. Any personal experiences or advice welcome. (Going on the Sunshine next month)

If you plan to gamble and get the points I would not buy the drink package personally. 1500 points really isn't that many tbh, lots of folks get that many on the first night - obviously depending on how much you bet etc.

I do lots of drinking not in the casino. Plus, I don't want to wait that long into my cruise to get free drinks. My husband would need the drink package, so I'd have to buy it anyway.

  • They give me free drinks while in the casino on most cruises and I still get the drink package. First, its only in the casino so I still end up ordering the majority of my drinks elsewhere.  Also, cocktail service in the casino has been awful for several years.  Generally, I'll walk to another bar to get drinks even when gambling.

We always buy the drink package, regardless of casino offer etc..we never get the Elite offer which includes drinks on us everywhere.

You can always ask the host to comp a bottle or specialty dining. Have also gotten gratis trips to cherry on top, etc.

If Cheers is more valuable to you, then yeah I'd just ask the Host for a different comp. Steakhouse, spa treatment, etc.

Still new to the casino on Carnvial as we have mostly sailed on RCCL (hosts on RCCL are bloody awful and invisible), how many points usually get their attention?  Enough for an ASK of a steakhouse dinner maybe?

There is no published schedule of comps. Their formula is kept secret.

I know, I was more hoping for first hand experiences and the 'norm'.

Yes.  We've asked and have received massages at the spa and specialty dining.

Useless info - everyone's a big winner on the internet. Everyone always comes out ahead. Everyone always gambles with less than you but always hits the bonuses and always gets the comps. Etc.

Fair enough statement @mz-s and you have your opinion on the matter.  I was asking for firsthand accounts and was going to take them at their word.  You consider it useless information, I don't.  Not like there is anything dependent on what a few people post in an online message board.  If a few people post similar experiences then I can chose to do what I will with that information.

Some people actually post accurate information about their results.  I know I do.  In fact take meticulous records.  I have pictures of my point total before and after ANY session in the casino.  I also have an accurate accounting of my bankroll before and after a session and can share that anytime.  Sure it is only my word, and I fully recognize many people either stretch the truth or flat out lie, but some don't.  Cheers, all the best.

At 1500 points??  Those hosts must have been feeling generous...

Just off Celebration 3/3/2024.  On the first night, I was right around 4000 when a host came over and offered a steakhouse dinner.  From experiences I have read, generally around 4000 will get some attention, but it will depend on points from everyone else.  Since it was the first night, I think the 4000 took more notice than if it would have been later in the cruise.

Past cruises: (For me) If I've bought Cheers or had DOU everywhere, the casino host will offer Steakhouse at around 3000 points, first or second night.  Sometimes I'll get another offer around day 5 (sometimes not).  This was on Pride and Legend and I was always visible in the casino...lol.  It also depended who the host was on a particular sailing. Some were more generous than others.  I've never asked.  They approached me.

Agree with RCL hosts.  Haven't sailed with them since 2007.

There's really no way to answer this even speaking to personal experience because it also has a lot to do with the type of people gambling on that particular cruise. If you have a lot of high rollers on that sailing, but you gamble moderately, you are much less likely to be offered anything.

No, you aren't going to get something else at 1500 points because you already bought CHEERS.  Many, many people who book casino offers with free drinks in the casino already, purchase CHEERS to use throughout the ship.  I do when I don't use an offer for free drinks everywhere from the casino.  In the eyes of the casino, 1500 points is nothing.  Players get that within an hour of the casino opening.  You may or may not be approached by a host and offered something else like dinner at a specialty restaurant at 3000/6000/16000/30000 points.  In other words, there is no "must".  The hosts also don't have much discretion.  Their computer constantly updates players and it spits out who gets what when.  It is far cheaper to buy what you want and not play for what you want.

Was at some point after.  Can't remember the exact total.

It is the only published comp...free drinks in the casino after reaching 1500 points, 1000points on short cruises.

so did us, they gave us 100.00 for cherry on top, safe to say, we bought stuffed animals for the grandkids, and lots of candy.

As far as onboard comps, the casino usually holds a certain number of specialty restaurant reservations on each night of the sailing (probably except the first night) and/or a has a budget for comps.  The cutoff for how many points you need to get comps is completely dependent on your points in relation to the highest point earners.

The higher your points in relation to others, the more likely and sooner you are to get comps. The lower, the less likely you are, and if you do get comps, the more likely it is to be at the end of the cruise as after the bigger point earners have already gotten their comps.

My last cruise last April on the Freedom, I purchased Cheers! in advance because the plan going in was to not spend the entire cruise in the casino, and I like to get drinks outside of the casino. So on day 2 (sea day), I easily got bored and the plan was ruined 😄. I ended up past 1,500 points the morning of day 3, and was never approached by anyone from the casino or received anything in cabin. That is rare from past experiences as my slots and table games play usually warrants a introduction from the casino manager, getting offered DOU on day 2, and snacks in the room for the rest of the cruise at a minimum. At day 6, I am around 5,000 points, and still no one has even bothered to say anything to me. I am playing one of the table games and I just happen to ask the pit boss if I am eligible for any comps in lieu of DOU since I already purchased Cheers! Maybe comp just my steakhouse meal that night? Maybe send me 4 wilted strawberries on a plate? Anything? Snap response was no. Said my play would possibly qualify me for return offers, but I was not eligible for anything else that cruise 🤯. I do not play for comps, but that was an absolute joke.

Yes I've gotten it on almost every cruise however I also usually get the drink package for free with my Casino offers and you can ask the host but when I asked they very politely say not at 1500 points plus like everyone has said getting drinks throughout the ship is much better than waiting for your casino drink to arrive
