A friend who is Loyal to Royal sailed on Sunrise last year (first time on Carnival).  Nothing but negative comments.  I told her to try a different ship and it was, "NO way, Carnival is S*** "

She couldn't believe that I like Carnival and there would never be a way to convince her to try it again.

I've never been on Sunrise but can't imagine it being THAT bad!

I would never trust a review or opinion about anything from someone who had literally nothing positive to say.

For someone who is used to the latest and greatest ships from Royal Caribbean, the Sunrise is like stepping back in time 30 years in terms of amenities but dealing with the modern cut-rate Carnival experience of nasty food, poor service, and dirty ships - I can't blame them for never wanting to try Carnival again after that. Nothing Carnival has, except perhaps the Excel class, can hope to compete with most of Royal Caribbean's fleet.

Carnival can only compete on price when there is a Royal Caribbean ship docked alongside at the same homeport. That's why people sail Sunrise out of Miami - she's the cheapest cruise you can take, almost without exception.

Agree and I usually don't.  I like to draw my own conclusions on everything!

We are considering a quick beach cruise right after Thanksgiving. But everywhere I search, the reviews are awful.

Has anyone on this board been on the ship recently and can chime in?arting

I can't say how the Sunrise is now, but I can't believe the ship would be THAT bad.

Our first cruise back in 2008 was on the Triumph. After booking and starting some planning, started to read reviews...some reviews were like, best ship in the fleet, to best thing Carnival could do is take the ship to the middle of the ocean and sink it. I've long ago given up on reading reviews, they are of zero value to me.

We've booked a number of cruises on loads of different ships, across a couple of other cruise lines along with Carnival and did not rely on a single review to make our decisions.

I'm going to agree with your first statement. My very first cruise was on Windjammer. My very first Carnival cruise was on Destiny. My very favorite cruise was probably on Star Clipper. All those ships are 30+ years old. I'll NEVER sail on a Icon Class.

Nice that choices exist. I know mine.

I just got off Carnival Sunrise, 5/13-5/18! We had a blast! The ship is a bit older, but she was clean, the staff was awesome, the casino machines were tight (for me, but my hubby won a few hundred), the CD, Leon was fun!, food was good! I cruise to have fun, relax, EAT, and drink! Of course, there were a few "knuckle heads" on the ship... But I see them at Walmart! -smirk! If you like where the ship is going... go for it!

Choices are great, it's all about having the correct expectations. Someone who's frame of reference of cruising is one of the latest RCCL ships, or even Mardi Gras, will be shocked and not in a good way when they board the Sunrise.

I will say 'maybe'; 'maybe not'. Passengers on small sailing vessels ridicule the large 'foofoos' as Windjammer pax referred to them. I'm convinced that I never would have returned to sea had my first experience been a 'mega'. Zero interest. That said, I do understand that I am in the minority. But I do promise you that the vast majority of folks on Viking or Windstar feel the exact same way.
