They are flaky crunchy pastries, better than croissants, filled with pistachio, lemon or chocolate cream. I only chose pistachio and lemon because I am dieting. No dinner again tonight because I still have cookies left over from yesterday. Trying to see how long I can last without eating any protein. I so wanted to visit Porto Venere while in Cinque Terre... all the more reasons now with all those yummy goodies. Rare Sugar Magnolia Posted May 23 Author #229 Share Posted May 23 I have been enjoying Howl at the Moon for nearly two hours now. Announcements were made but we could not hear what they were. The Captain finally came on and said that smoke was detected in the engine room and they are investigating.

Rare Sugar Magnolia Posted May 24 Author #237 Share Posted May 24 It was another easy day relaxing and walking around Cannes. I was thinking about hopping on the train to Antibes but last tender was at 3:00 and Mallorca is a long way to swim if I miss the little boat to take me back to the big boat. While waiting to board the tender from the ship, a wake caused the tender to bob up and down erratically which freaked out one lady who walked back on the ship. The rest of us survivors waited for calmer waters. The tender ride is around 10 minutes with a few more minutes added for wait time loading and unloading passengers. Both the ship’s and the local tenders were used. The Escape’s tender is red and the local tender is white sitting behind the Port of Cannes dock. The Cannes Film Festival is still happening so I was concerned that the paparazzi would follow me around. I hate when that happens. Thankfully, there was no paparazzi in sight anywhere around me. 3

The paparazzi are more vicious and aggressive than the mamarazzi.

We once had a tender in Corfu (which is not even a tender port, but there were 3 ships and 2 dock spaces) that bobbed like you described. Someone fell and landed right on one his elbows despite being helped by the tender crew. I truly shuddered realizing it could have been my DW who had had surgery for a broken elbow from a fall and had a plate in that elbow. Even having it touched caused her great pain,.

My first tender was in Algarve, Portugal, and looking back now--it was an exhilarating experience, of being up close (and personal) with the great Mediterranean Seas! Rare Sugar Magnolia Posted May 24 Author #241 Share Posted May 24 Cruise Director Jack woke me up shortly after 6:00am to announce that the tenders were ready for our day in Cannes. Good grief…the croissants weren’t even ready yet. Despite the early morning call, I took my sweet time getting off the ship. And since I had such a late start, this time I only walked around Le Suquet, the old town area. I was not properly dressed for the fancy Boulevard de la Croisette, and like any proper meal in France, my lunch lasted half a day…the last hour just to beg for my check.
Rare Sugar Magnolia Posted May 24 Author #242 Share Posted May 24 (edited) Soon it was lunchtime. It felt weird sitting in front of a Pollution Interdite sign with the graphic of a dog pooping. I ordered confit de canard and ratatouille. Despite the critically-acclaimed animated movie, the chef was not a rat but the food was just as delicious. They gave me half a loaf of crusty bread and I ate all of it. Dessert was apple tart with fresh strawberry purée…excellent. I have noticed that NCL allocated some of the less desirable locations as solo cabins. If I want to book an Inside cabin with lounge access, the Solo Inside cabins will likely be on Deck 5 where it might be under the theater, in which case, no thanks. I'm in a solo inside on deck 11, how do you get access to the Studio Lounge, do they give you a special key card?

schmoopie17 Posted May 24 #249 Share Posted May 24 (edited) Okay, now you've done it. We were in Cannes in 2022 and we did the excursion to Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze. We're stopping at Cannes again in September and we had planned to make this a "sea day", since we had been to Cannes and we despise tendering...plus our cruise has no "regular" sea days. We figured we'd have the ship to ourselves. But after seeing these pictures, (excluding the dog pooping sign) it's very tempting to jump ship that day. We'll see what Mrs. Schmoopie ultimately decides (although she still has some mobility issues, and from what I've read. Le Suquet can be challenging for the mobility challenged. I hope Mrs Schmoopie is continuing to improve. Yes, Le Suquet can be a bit challenging, but it is the more interesting part of the city and close to the tender station. Alternatively, it is easy to walk along the water on Blvd de la Croisette. I was only out for a few hours…no need to spend the whole day there unless you want to. 1
