A1, Newcastle/Washington

If anyone further north is heading down to Southampton this weekend for their cruise, there are major road issues between junction 68 and 65 on the A1. There are also lane closures on the Tyne Bridge due to maintenance on the bridge. Plus the Tyne Tunnel North bound will be closed, but those people will be using the South bound tunnel. So lots of delays in the area.

There are also road works on the M1 for long stretches of the route and especially near Leeds with lots of slow traffic.

There are also long delays on the A1.south of the M62.

I would suggest that rather than taking the M1 from its start  you should take A1(M)  then the M62 East then the M18 back to the M1 . It's a bit longer but currently faster. (or it was last weekend).

We went to Northumberland show from north yorkshire and the roadworks on A1 added 45 mins to our journey time so beware if you're planning to fly from newcastle airport too (Eg Marella cruises) as its the other side of them.

M1 for its whole  length from Leeds to London has very long stretches of roadworks, mile after miles of traffic going nowhere near the 50mph limit due to reduced number of lanes.

Starts north of Sheffield almost as far as East Midlands, then again near Milton Keynes, then finally around Luton.

6 hours to do 180 miles last Friday.

Just awful, juggler. I once had a similar nightmare on a Friday coming back from London - M40 & M6 crawling pretty much the whole way. I seriously considered stopping and getting a room at the hotel at one of the services.
