Rare schmoopie17 Posted June 30 #26 Share Posted June 30 We always book our specialty restaurants as soon as the window opens up, As for MDR reservations, we've never made one. We always show up at the dining room when we're ready and we've never waited more than a couple of minutes (if that). Usually walk right in. EngrJones Posted June 30 #29 Share Posted June 30 Bottom line for me: Booking MDR reservations in advance costs nothing and is a fun way to make the upcoming cruise more real. It takes just a few (enjoyable) moments and there is no commitment. Booking MDR reservations is (almost) always of no help and what some might consider a "horrible waste of my valuable time that I could waste elsewhere (like posting on the internet)." IOW: to each their own. Nobody should be told NOT to book the MDR. Nobody should be told that booking the MDR will provide valuable returns. It is largely noise, that doesn't really warrant any strong opinions one way or the other.

People really over think this reservation booking. I never know what time I am going to want to eat before getting on a ship. There could be many factors that play into the decision...late lunch, an activity I want to do/see, excursion running late. The great thing about the MDR is you show up when you want and you get seated, usually within 10 minutes or so. No need to stress or rush...relax, it's a vacation! 2
realnice46 Posted July 1 Author #31 Share Posted July 1 Just got off Getaway and never had a problem with any of complimentary dining venues except Shanghai Noodle Bar which was terrible in my opinion.

You definitely had to get in line before they opened or would probably not get in until late.

We thought the food was great...ate there at least four times).

This is definitely YMMV - we had to wait over 30 minutes for MDR seating a couple evenings on last cruise (Sky, 14 day Caribbean). MDR lines were long first week, luckily people disappeared on 2nd week and it was ”walk right up, sit right down…” guess everyone went to the buffet, which was not that great of a selection, but to each their own. For reservations the app works whether you are on the ship or at home, or any place in between. Remember dining reservations are only offered 120 prior to sailing unless you are in a suite, the haven or have status. it will work in the terminal assuming you can get a signal.
