Transfer of free internet minutes

There is NO WAY to do what you want to do. The reason being is one can only create one signon and password combination. When you do that you can either choose to activate free Elite+ minutes or activate the pre-purchased unlimited Wifi package - you can't do both simultaneously, nor can you create a second wifi account.

This person knows that she wants the unlimited wifi package because she likes to play games that are online and others stuff that requires you to be online. She does not want to limit herself to 240 minutes and have to remember to sign off each time.

With that being said, what is the point of having the free minutes if she purchased the unlimited wifi package?

The free minutes will result in discount off the regular price of WiFi when you purchase the WiFi package.

Makes sense; is there an actual Celebrity communication that states this?

When you go and choose the free minutes before it's activated it will give you the option to apply it to other Wi-Fi packages.

If she already purchased an unlimited Wi-Fi pre-cruise then you are correct, basically the free minutes given becomes wasted. You can technically choose to activate the free minutes first, use it until it runs out, then choose the unlimited pre- purchased package. But that's pointless.

If the Elite free minutes are enough to hold you for embarkation day is it less expensive to use the free minutes for that first day and then purchase a Wi-Fi package for the remaining days? Is the same wi-fi package discount available the second day?

There was a deal that she just got in an email and we called and she recieved 35% off the original wifi package, because she is an elite + member.

Would that negate the 240 free minutes?

yes the choice was 240 minutes or a discount - she chose the discount. You now have 90 minutes of your own to use or you can trade those in for a discount - can be done on the ship - your choice

When we sail in the Retreat we each receive the free Premium package.  When I go to log into the ship's Wifi, I am given the option of using my Elite + minutes or the preapid premium account.  Theoretically, I could give someone else my login credentials and they could use those Elite + minutes while I could log in, using the same credentials, and use the prepaid premium package.

I have not tried this but may give it a go on our next cruise.

No you cannot. The only way you can do this is if the free premium package is accessed via a Code. If you need to create a logon ID and password, those are only good for one device at a time UNLESS you have a multidevice package. Otherwise when you try to login it will say another device is using the wifi and do you want to switch devices.

Okay thanks.  As I said, I had not tried it but seemed possible in theory.

In the past when you got an all cruise free Wifi via your Blue Chip Club/Celebrity Casino status you had to go to the ILounge manager and they had a list of all the people that qualified for the casino benefit. They would then give you a logon code which gave you the free wifi;you didn't need to create a wifi logon iD account and password.During that time you COULD give away your free Elite/Elite+ minutes by creating an account and giving the details to the other person. You would still be able to use your free whole cruise WiFi since you logon via a code. When they started to have the Casino benefit wifi already loaded into your profile and accessed once you create an logon ID and password, then you could no longer double dip. As I have said you can plea your case to the Ilounge manager, I would say that it works about half the time. Personally I don't agree since it is an earned benefit that they are taking away. It's not like trying to take advantage of a BOGO deal where you didn't actually BUY the first item but it was gifted to you and you're looking to get a second item for free. You EARNED those free WiFI minutes!

Edit: Many time an inexperienced I Lounge manager doesn't KNOW how to create and alternative logon ID for you and/or create an loggon code from your free minutes (Which was how one mgr did it, he crested or gave us a 24 hour wifi code) so they can't accommodate the request.

@kwokpot thanks for the information.  I've never had a Blue Chip or any other 'free benefit' other than that associated with my Captains Club status.  However, on our last cruise when I went to log into the WiFi, after entering my portfolio number and creating an account, I was given the option to use my Elite minutes or my free Premium for the entire cruise.  I cannot recall if I ever saw those choices again or not.  I do plan to play around on my next cruise.

IDK if it works on Celebrity, but I know with Disney, iMessage and WhatsApp messages (no pictures) will work just on the ship WiFi without a package.

On my last cruise a few weeks ago I intentionally didn't purchase an internet package because of the number of port days on that particular itinerary where I would have cellular service.  I found out, however, that I was still able to send and receive iMessages on my iPhone.  I'm not sure if that was because that particular ship misconfigured the firewall to not block the appropriate ports that iMessage uses or they were intentionally allowing messaging service to pass despite not having an internet package.  I also noticed that I was getting breaking news alerts in my Associated Press app which surprised me.  Other internet usage failed since I didn't have a package.

Yeah - I know Disney keeps it available because it allows crew to send and receive iMessages or WhatsApp texts to and from family and friends - and either there is not a way to make it just available for crew or they just decided to leave it for all. But yes - while alerts may come through for email and news, actually getting them without a package is something else.
