That is one of the options being discussed by Tampa Bay city planners.

 

The other is to build a new port on Tierra Verde near Fort DeSoto and outside of the Sunshine Skyway bridge. Key is to build without pissing off the environmentalists.

I would prefer to cruise out of Tampa myself ...

I would love to see East Coast cruises out of Bayonne, NJ.  That port is drivable for many potential customers.

I am looking at 2 itineraries offered by other cruises lines.

• Round trip Miami to Bermuda (2 overnights) then Charleston (1 overnight) 
• Hawaii round trip from the west coast.

What I do know is that when I talk to someone about cruises, if someone says they'll never cruise AGAIN, it is almost always because their first and only experience was an inexpensive, short, and not surprisingly not-so-fun Bahamas out and back.

If I was Celebrity, I'd make sure ANY cruise I offered wouldn't be one that made folks never return, and those shorter ones seem to be the most likely to cause that to happen 😞

We recently moved to Florida and my first trip as a resident is a 4 night cruise which I would have never considered in the past having to fly to port. We are calling on Key West and Bimini which we have never been to in 30 yrs of cruising in the Caribbean. There is a market for these short cruises in Florida.
