Sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale with a 4 year old. Booster seats in Ubers?

Recommended Posts

Check to see if your hotel offers a shuttle to Port Everglades. With those you won't need a car seat.

It seems a hit or miss if you can find Uber/Lyft that offers car seats.

If flying into Fort Lauderdale and staying 1 night pre cruise, I suggest a hotel with airport pickup and shuttle to the port the following day. The airport and the port are less than 2 miles apart. There are lots of hotels around the airport and more closer to the port along 17th. street. Shuttles to the port are around $8-9, P.P.

When we traveled last summer with our 4 year old granddaughter using Ubers to/from our home airport, from FLL to our hotel, from the hotel to Port Everglades, and from Port Everglades to FLL our son and daughter-in-law used an inflatable car seat for 4 year olds/40 pounds and up.  It inflates in seconds (and deflates that fast too) and takes up hardly any room.  Installation takes as long as putting on a seat belt.

I will be sailing out of Fort Lauderdale next spring with a 4 year old.  We haven’t had occasion to Uber with a child.  Will Ubers have car seats?  What do other cruisers do?

Thank you.

you can bring your own booster. Mine has been using a booster for travel (short taxi/uber rides) since he was 4, even though he was harnessed at home till almost 7.

Harmony Youth (Juvenile) booster and Cosco Rise are nice, light and easy to travel with. We put it in a woven bag and used it as a personal item on the plane and put it in the overhead compartment.

If you want to use an inflatable booster and your child is over 40#, use Bubblebum. It has a good seat belt fit on children over 40#.

You would need to request the car seat option.  Rideshares are not exempt from car seat laws like taxis.  Drivers are supposed to cancel (and collect a cancel fee) if they are not  car seat equipped and see you need one
