Using VPN with Premium Internet Plan

Recommended Posts

Will NordVPN work with the premium internet plan?

I plan to get the premium plan but not streaming plan.

What is the last date I can buy this package at the discounted rate?

The day before sailing?

Thanks.

Nord VPN will work with the premium plan.  Be sure to download your APP on your PC and Phone before you leave.   You can't set up your account on the ship, but you can log in once it has been set up ashore.

I think most advance sales close out 4 days (or is it 3) before sailing.  Not the day before sailing

My 2024 Koningsdam Alaska aft stateroom Premium internet speed with Malwarebytes Privacy VPN was around 22 Mbps for my banking transactions with normal connection speeds between 116 and 127 Mbps.

A little off topic: does the premium (middle) level allow watching YouTube?

Someone may correct me but I do not believe it does. I want to say in December I only had the premium not the Streaming and could not pull up YouTube or TikTok. I have some I follow on both and I could not log in to either.

HAL previously didn't allow VPN due to load on the network but with Starlink, you can. It may depend on itinerary and your VPN that you use. (Pete answered for Nord).

3 days prior to cruise closes purchases for wifi, excursions, beverages, etc.

Premium won't let you stream. You have to upgrade to .... Streaming Package.

Of course, if you use a VPN and can get it to work on your ship, which is the topic of this thread, then you can go to whatever sites you want since HAL will have no idea whether to allow it or not.  That said, I have had mixed success with getting a VPN to work with the streaming package on my cruises.  Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.  But that might just be due to the nature of spotty internet at sea, and Starlink might improve things.

Can’t get NordVPN to even log in on Cunard premium plan (Starlink). The WiFi blocks some sites it seems - like simple games - Royal Match

the internet won’t even allow any search of “VPN” to open any result pages.

I learned that I had to download the NORD app while off the ship.  Once the app was already installed - I was able to connect.    For other sites that shouldn't be blocked I talked to the IT officer and they unblocked them.  THey have to send a request to Carnival in Miami to whitelist certain sites.
