Le Havre - Honfleur ...sold out? or just can't buy online?

Hi All,

Planning on going from Le Havre to Honfleur (presuming this is a good use of time?).

We've looked at bus and train and can't see any availability. Some websites saying "Sold out" pretty much all day every day.

Can anyone tell me - can you just not purchase the train/bus tickets online for this?

If anyone knows - how much is the train? And bus? We'll get our own way into Le Havre so it's just a direct return we'd be looking for.

Thanks!

When are you planning on this travel? Train only sells up to 4 months out.

2 weeks time 😬...it's odd. I think the bus looks a decent option anyway? Number 122 or 123?

If you want to visit Honfleur, on a port day, the train is not an option.  But getting to/from Le Harve is easily accomplished via taxi (shared or private) and is also possible via a regional public bus (somewhat more complicated).   As to the train, I believe there is only about 5 trains per day (that can get you between Le Havre and Honfleur) and using a train means getting to the Le Havre train station (over a mile from the port) and getting into Honfleur from its small train station (over 3 miles from the tourist part of town).  It could actually cost more to use the trains and taxis (to and from the train station) than simply taking a taxi from Le Havre's port.

When you walk out of the small cruise terminal at Le Havre, there will usually be a few waiting taxis.  The drivers will often organize a shared vehicle (often a van/SUV taxi) to take folks to Honfleur.  The last time we heard a price mentioned, it was 25 Euros per person.  If you have 4, you should be able to get a decent deal from a taxi.

Hank is correct.  On this occasion a shared taxi would be easier than a public bus.

Not always, but sometimes, a taxi is the best  and easiest option and if you can share you save some money. as it is costing you less than an exclusive use would be.

If you joined any Roll Call for your sailing, ask on there if anyone would like to share.  That failing, once off the gangway, and as Honfleur is so popular, there could well be other passengers on the dock happy to share.

You could also consider taking a shared taxi TO Honfleur and taking the public bus back to le Havre, allowing time for the walk back to ship from the gare routiere (bus station) .

Guess you can do that.  I believe you need to walk out of the port area (a bit of a hike) and find the bus stop.  The last I looked, there were only a few buses (10:30 and 12:45) departing from the downtown bus area (you may need a taxi if you want to go to this spot).  There appears to be a return bus at 2:02 and the next one is about 4:54.

DW and I will often just rent a car because than we can drive to places like Honfleur and nearby Deuville.  Sometimes we will double back an head over to the Etretat area.  With a car we have also driven to Beuvron en Auge, which is a small town that looks like it was misplaced from Bavaria.  One of those cute places that will not normally be visited on excursions.  Quite a few good options, from Le Havre, for those with a car or on a private tour.

That's great Hank, thank you! Our budget just doesn't stretch far enough to taxis...most of the time it's just getting off the ship, having a wander and grabbing a coffee.

Does anyone know if taxis have child car seats?  We are going on a cruise with our daughter, son-in-law and 18 month old grandson.  We’re hoping to go to Honfleur (been a few times and love it).

As so important to get it right, best if you check online for current legislation.

Something like "child car seat law in France" should do it.

And once you know the size and model you need, you could ask taxi companies if they supply as standard when required by passengers.  If considering taxis in any of your other ports, be aware that as far as I am aware, every country in the EU has child seat requirements, but you could check that as there may be variations in the requirements..

In Le Havre today. The current price is €70 each way to Honfleur.

Think for two people, Bee Le Havre is cheaper

Inflation rears its ugly head.  They used to negotiate down to 25 Euros (per person) each way and would usually use a larger van/taxi.  At 70 Euros per person, it really does make sense to just rent a car for the day.  Not only can you drive to Honfleur, but you also have access to many other places (such as Deauville and Beuvron).  In fact, we once went all the way to Fecamp and Etretat, spent a couple of hours, then drove to Honfleur for lunch and the afternoon.  All for the price of a rental car (under 100 Euros at the time).  And Fecamp is in the opposite direction from Honfleur, so not reasonably done with a taxi.

Of course, with a rental car one can drive all the way to any of the D-Day beaches and various attractions in that area.  Consider that 2 couples can rent a car, and explore whatever they want for less than 50 Euros per person (for the entire day).  When one considers that cost of most excursions, it is amazing that more folks do not simply rent cars in many ports.  Driving in Normandy is quite easy since most of the region is rural.  Even getting from the port area, out of Le Havre, is a relatively simple route.

Sorry for confusion. It's €70 per trip/car each way.  So we were fairly late disembarking, (in overnight) and there was noone else to share with. So for the two of us it would of been €140 round trip, as opposed to Bee, €52 for two round trip plus €7 each for bus into town .

The cruise shuttle to Honfleur was £70 per person return

If I remember correctly it is a little under 30 minutes each way so euro70 sounds excessive.

sgmn, you could have perhaps found others to share with you on any Roll Call for that sailing which you might have signed up for. By leaving it later until you left the ship, you reduced your chances of finding others as they were probably off earlier.

The driver said he had to pay the  levy/fee for crossing the Point de Normandy  bridge.

He showed us his printed list of fees for popular destinations so I'm pretty sure it was correct.

The  cruise was part of the Serenade world cruise and the roll call virtuallt non existent for our segment.

Our plans were up in the air. We had been in Normandy for holiday many times and Honfleur a few times.  As we were in Le Havre overnight we decided to wait a while and just go for a stroll and lunch in Honfleur .

It actually worked out well. The port bus dropped off right next to Bee Le Havre. We were there a few minutes before the 1245 afternoon departure for Honfleur. The bus was only a third full so could buy tickets there no problem. The Bee bus dropped us only a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Honfleur and gave us a nice commentary on the way. On return they dropped us off at the port before returnjbg to the centre of Le Havre

Our dining table neighbours took the local bus from the train station in Le Havre, return for around €10 for two

Definitely inflaion then, however it appears it all worked out in the end for you, by luck I think more than anything.

How disappointing  that there was no active Roll Call for your sector as that is usually a good way to find others to share taxi rides or private tours. Better luck next time!
