Rare Syd58 Posted July 2 #1 Share Posted July 2 Recently purchased and would like to have an idea of what the OBC can be used for. We will be on Vista. I have heard it can't be used for excursions nor is refundable at end of the cruise.
Rare mauibabes Posted July 2 #2 Share Posted July 2 I have used it in the Shops to buy gifts, clothing, jewelry, paintings from the Artist in Residence, paying my bar bill or other charges, even paid for Bingo Cards. I do not think it works in the Casino but it is good in the Spa. Bottom line, you can never have too much OBC or what I call O Funny Money. If I have leftover 💰, I have even purchased a great bottle of wine and hauled it home, compliments of O. Just enjoy, Mauibabes

Also, if you pay for your pre-purchased excursions by the credit card this credit will be applied to your excursions or any other expenses on your onboard account first and the rest of your cash payments will be turned into refundable OBC. For our August trip, the credit is showing in our account. It was added to the SM excursion credits. We booked several excursions and the cost was slightly more ($15 or so) than the SM credit. The account is showing the difference as the remaining credit. So, it appears they did let me use it to pay for pre-booked excursions. This will be our first O cruise, so I may be reading it wrong, but I didn’t have to pay the extra $15 when we booked the excursions.

All our previous cruises have been with OLife. The most recent one was in April this year. I just explained how the shareholders benefits always worked for us. It’s great if Oceania somehow made it easier to work. But it’s also possible that it’s all upon the person in the office who is applying the credit to your account one way or another. And anyway one would be able to apply this credit against the cost of the excursions they selected.

I booked 2 excursions -pre cruise & used up the SM allotment and needed another $40- the O rep used my OBC to pay that amount. My CC was not charged. The difference came from the OBC I had on my account.
Rare vlthom Posted July 3 #9 Share Posted July 3 Can be used in the spa, shops, bars, and excursions booked on board. It’s not difficult to use up.

Did you use shareholders OBC? If so, I’m glad that you had all sorted out.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted July 5 #11 Share Posted July 5 I noticed on my recently applied shareholder credit was split equally between both guest. I had expected to book a solo excursion but it would only allow me to use 1/2 of it. I decided--- why bother... so Oceania lost my excursion booking. I will just let it be applied to our gratuities instead.

iowananny Posted July 5 #13 Share Posted July 5 I think Jim may be right. On their new Less is More gimmick we booked excursions for our January cruise to the Amazon. We came close to what we had to spend and my husband wanted to take an excursion that I wasn't interested in. It should have used all the credits we had been given for the trip but because I wasn't going on the excursion he had to pay full price for it which he expected and then use what was left of the money I had not used to help cover the cost. I didn't work that way. He couldn't use "my money" to pay for the remainder of his excursion. Apparently the money is split up between each person in a cabin and if one person doesn't want to use all their credits they just lose it their cabin mate cannot use it. We're going on a Baltic cruise in a few weeks and we both used all our credits on tours. Let's just hope they aren't cancelled, and we lose them that way. Right now we're wondering if Oceania is the right cruise line for us. Our travel agent is going to work on the $47 but I doubt if she has that much luck. It's not that much money but yet again $47 is $47. .

This is the default, at least it is for NCL (we have our first O cruise scheduled in about a month.). As long as your onboard charges are both going to the same onboard account it should not matter. It will be applied to the outstanding balance. That being said, I have travelled with friends on many NCL cruises where we each set up our own accounts. I discovered that if I put a note on the request to apply the full credit to me (as opposed to splitting it between the two in the cabin), they have done it. If I’m traveling with DH I don’t bother. As the old saying goes “It’s two pockets in the same pair of pants.” 😂
Tranquility Base Posted July 7 #17 Share Posted July 7 How far in advance of departure can you apply for the SBC ?

There’s no set time limit on how far in advance you can apply. I’ve done it as much as 8 months before sailing date. They do want proof of holding the stock (I use a redacted brokerage statement) dated within 90 days of submitting the request. At least NCL does. I assume it’s the same for Oceania.
Tranquility Base Posted July 7 #19 Share Posted July 7 Thanks. Follow up question . My next cruise is back to back ( two separate booking numbers ) Do I have to send in two forms, or will writing details of both bookings on the one form suffice ? As people say, “individual results may vary.” I’ve never been successful in getting the shareholder credit applied applying more than 30 days out from sailing. True. I applied in February for our cruise in August and the credit posted in two days. The only time I had an issue was with NCL when I used an older brokerage statement. They asked for a more recent one. I submitted it and had the credit posted within 24 hours.

PhD-iva Posted July 9 #25 Share Posted July 9 Since COVID, I find the response time to be varied and unpredictable. I suggest submitting forms after FP date, and follow up every few weeks……. It gets there eventually IME.
