Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #54 Share Posted July 9 Once at the top, you see the Christ the Redeemer Statue which is made of bronze. Brazil has the bigger one made of marble. the view from up there is incredible! 3

Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #58 Share Posted July 9 After a long drive down the mountain, we headed to the Rum distillery tour, the coffee and chocolate stores with small informational sessions. All of these were like the majority of other tours we have done in other Caribbean countries but we still enjoyed them and bought rum and coffee. We were joined by busloads of other cruisers. Three ships were in port. We bought this one. It has a strong cinnamon taste to it.

It wa funny because the staff member who escorted us on ship worked in the casino and I said does anyone win big? He was like no. Then he checked himself and said well a guest won 24,000 last week. lol
Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #60 Share Posted July 9 We also visited the fort - Fortaleza San Felipe and had an audio tour. Gorgeous views from here and a great view of the Breakaway! 3

Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #62 Share Posted July 9 Our last stop before lunch was the Amber and Larimar shop. DR is known for Amber and they have the only mine in the world which produces Larimar which is a gorgeous blue stone. Amber comes from tree sap and they believe theirs is better than other countries which comes from the sea instead of the mountains. I enjoyed this part of the tour and I had to buy a pair of larimar earrings. He tried a 30% makeup for credit card but we got him down 15%. Dan told Alexander no more jewelry stores! 4
Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #63 Share Posted July 9 Lunch was in this gorgeous old Victorian house turned into a restaurant called Kaffe. We had traditional chicken, rice, beans, yummy salad, and passion fruit juice. I loved how charming it was! 2
Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #64 Share Posted July 9 After lunch, we toured the famous Pink street which was started in remembrance of cancer patients. I cannot remember the name of the woman. I’m a breast cancer survivor so I loved it even though it was a big touristy place. 6
Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #65 Share Posted July 9 And the umbrella street which was also created to bring in tourism with several shops. They took a big hit during Covid with loss of tourism so they are trying to create areas and recover. It was a beautiful street with the colorful umbrellas and flowers.
Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #66 Share Posted July 9 Our last stop was a cigar factory to learn about how they roll tobacco and make cigars and learn to do Dominican dances. By then we were hot and tired. It was interesting but I hate the smell of cigars so I was ready to go. We enjoyed the dancer though.
Rare firstmickey Posted July 9 Author #67 Share Posted July 9 In summary, we loved this tour, thought it was worth the money, and our guide was outstanding. I highly recommend it and it changed my opinion of this port stop. After our long walk back to the ship, we were melted. It was about 1:45. Dan took a nap and I went to the thermal suite at the spa. Even been relaxing ever since and we just left port. time for dinner and teppanyaki tonight!

However, I quit ordering soup in the Haven. I would love if they would do a 'soup of the day' and bring a couple of gallons up from the MDR galley. Loving this review and all the great pics! 1
Rare firstmickey Posted July 10 Author #69 Share Posted July 10 Dinner at Teppanyaki was fun and the food was like just about every other hibachi restaurant. We walked around shops, posed for pictures, then went to the Haven bar. We did the escort to Headliners for the comedy show. They had one bartender in there and one server and some people didn’t get drinks when they closed the bar five mins before the comedian came out. People were leaving to go to other bars for drinks. The comedian was very funny. His name was Nery Saenz and from Miami. it was a long but fun day. 3
Rare graphicguy Posted July 10 #70 Share Posted July 10 Loving your live picture review. Breakaway was my first Haven cruise (among many that followed) and my most memorable. Love the "-AWAY" ships. Thanks! 2

Rare firstmickey Posted July 10 Author #72 Share Posted July 10 Quick post. Busy day today for St Thomas day. we had Haven breakfast and I had a pedicure scheduled so I had a front row seat to entering and docking at port today. The Sky is here again and the Disney Fantasy. (Miss you Disney)! we had a ship excursion booked for St John Champagne catamaran and snorkel which involved an open air bus ride of about 25 mins then a 45 min ride to St. John. Snorkeling was great! We saw a “rainbow fish” officially known as a pirate fish, sea turtles, rays, and schools of all kinds of fish. Very fun. Met some great people from the Sky. I basically saw nothing in St Thomas except countryside from the bus. more later. Early Haven dinner and we want to get to Syd Norman’s Pour House for their show of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors album. pictures I later but here is haven breakfast menu and a sneak peak.
